Auburn defeats Georgia for the second time in a row in the SEC.
Auburn women’s basketball earned its second straight conference win with a 67-49 victory over Georgia. These are the fewest points Auburn has allowed in an SEC game this season.
After an eight-day layoff since their last game, the Tigers won their third straight conference game at Neville Arena thanks to defensive help and 21 points from Scott-Grayson. The Tiger defense started the game strong, limiting Georgia to nine points in the first quarter and forcing the Lady Bulldogs to shoot 3-of-11 from the field. Auburn scored 12 points in the first quarter alone and had 7 turnovers. “We just came out and played our style,” coach Johnny Harris said. “We want to be tough, we want to be in the passing lanes, we want to be aggressive. I thought I did that. We thought we had to step on their toes and then ours and I think we did that.
The Tigers had 23 turnovers, the most in a conference game this season. Auburn improved with its average of 21.05 forced turnovers per game. A trio of 3-point field goals by Scott-Grayson in the second quarter allowed Auburn to double its first-quarter point total and take a 13-point lead into halftime.
Despite shooting 39 percent from the field as a team, Auburn finished with 18 points, 21 of which came from Scott-Grayson. “He’s a very important person for this club,” Harris said. “Not only did he score the goals, he played great defensively, but sometimes he does too much for himself and others.”
Scott-Grayson finished the night as the Tigers’ leading scorer, adding six rebounds, two steals and a block. He was just three points shy of his season-high 24 points against Alabama.
Taylen Collins helped Scott-Grayson score and finished with 13 points, her highest in conference play. “I felt good,” Collins said. “He was very aggressive. I tried to keep up with it, I tried my best to find their flaws and enter their territory whenever possible.
Collins finished with 13 points, four rebounds, two steals and a block.
With the win, Auburn improved to 14-6 on the season and 3-4 in conference play, tied with the Tigers for third and eighth, while Georgia finished last in conference play at 1-6. . .
