Exclusive; Browns To Hire Andy Dickerson As Offensive Line Coach
The Cleveland Browns have named relatively unknown and longtime NFL coach Andy Dickerson to replace Bill Callahan as the team’s next offensive line coach.
Dickerson, who spent time as an assistant to Eric Mangini with the Browns in 2009 and 2010, returned to the team with the big task of replacing Callahan and taking the offensive line to a new level. That’s what worked so well for him in Seattle. Dickerson praised his work with the Seahawks. As the running game coordinator in 2021, the Seahawks finished the season with 5.02 yards per attempt, third best in the NFL. In 2022, Dickerson led the transition of rookie offensive tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas in a year that saw quarterback Geno Smith reach the Pro Bowl.
He will be tasked with managing the performance of three talented offensive tackles and one of the best interior line groups in the NFL. Although talented, the Browns’ efforts last season were marred by injuries and poor consistency. Success in the running game will also be important for Dickerson to find form as the unit has had its worst overall performance since Kevin Stefanski arrived in 2020. Dickerson is from Wilmington, Delaware and attended Tufts University as an offensive lineman from 1999 to 2002.
The Browns initially approached Dickerson as offensive coordinator, but eventually hired Ken Dorsey. An early interview paved the way for that connection when Callahan decided to work with his son in Tennessee. The Browns have been intrigued by Dickerson’s connection to Sean McVay since his time with the Los Angeles Rams.
While Dickerson had worked with the Rams since 2012 before McVay’s arrival, Dickerson’s work on the offensive line was key to his first leadership role as the Seahawks’ quarterbacks coordinator in 2021. Shane Waldron did not directly hire him to play. to coach the offensive line, he gave him a huge task covering every aspect of how the Seahawks attack the run game each week. He also worked closely with longtime offensive line coach Mike Solari.
The Seahawks then parted ways with Solari after a disappointing 2021 in which they felt his pass protection was lacking and his run-blocking style didn’t match Waldon’s. Solari recruited by Dallas until June 2023.
He left Dickerson passes the road with Solari and left the coordinator coordinator’s role on the left coach. The sailors gathered an impressive running in the rest of the EPA last season.
The experience of mating with the concept of jogging will be the additional prevention of “philosophy”. OBR will discuss Dickerson’s philosophy and approach going forward, providing complete coverage of who he is as a coach and what he will bring to the Browns’ new offensive overhaul in 2024.
