Exclusive on Browns; Browns QB Deshaun Watson Issues 3-Word Message After Super Bowl

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson wasted no time preparing for the post-Super Bowl season. Watson posted the photo on Instagram Monday morning with a simple three-word message: “Back.” The Browns quarterback appeared to be at UCLA’s practice facility.

He was rehabbing and training in Los Angeles after undergoing surgery to repair a dislocated fracture of a muscle in his right shoulder joint. Watson played in just six games last season after suffering two shoulder injuries. He is expected to be ready to report to training camp.

Watson shared an update on his progress during a recent episode of his show “QB Unplugged.” “We’re on the right track where we need to be,” Watson said during the Feb. 9 broadcast. “Like I said, every week is an opportunity for us to get better.

And you know, we’re on the right track toward what we want.” The Browns are happy with Deshaun Watson. This is good news for the Browns, who need a healthy $230 million QB to have any chance of competing next season.

Watson’s blockbuster deal hasn’t gone as planned so far. However, Browns general manager Andrew Berry is confident in Watson’s ability to lead the team. “We feel good about Deshaun,” Berry said, according to Zach Jackson of The Athletic. “I think the biggest thing is that he stays on the field and stays on the field.

Each year we try to carry out as many self-assessments as possible across all areas of our business. So whether it’s a good year or a bad year, (we) will probably always be tinkering with what we think is best to some extent somewhere. But especially for Deshaun, we were very excited. “We just want to make sure he’s healthy.” Watson’s first two seasons in Cleveland were uneven.

Due to lengthy suspensions and injuries, he only played in 12 games. He passed for 2,217 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Browns. Deshaun Watson wants to work with new Browns quarterback Ken Dorsey.

The Browns revamped their offensive coaching staff this offseason. Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt was fired shortly after the wild card loss to the Houston Texans. Cleveland also parted ways with several assistant coaches on the other side of the ball.

The Browns hired Ken Dorsey to replace Van Pelt. Dorsey comes to the table with experience playing a dual-threat quarterback. He spent time working with Cam Newton and most recently Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen. Dorsey believes Watson can become one of the best passers in the league. “I’m really excited to be a part of this offense, especially the fact that Deshaun is one of the best defenders in the league,” Dorsey said.

“This is an opportunity for me to really get on the field this season and help him prove that he is actually the best defensive player in this league who can help us win football games.” Watson loved hearing Dorsey say this and shared his reaction on his “QB Unplugged” show. “I listened to his press conference,” Watson said. “It was really cool to hear him say he made me one of the best defenders ever.

This is the key. “He coached quarterback Cam [Newton] when he won MVP and took them to the Super Bowl. And everyone knows what Josh [Allen] is doing in Buffalo. I think he’s finished second and third in MVP voting twice,” Watson said. “I was really excited to go there and go to Cleveland and get the playbook and learn from him.”
