Just in; Warren Sapp confirms spot on Deion Sanders’ Colorado staff as a graduate assistant
There is little speculation about what Warren Sapp’s role will be in Colorado this year. The Hall of Famer set the record straight when he appeared on Super Bowl Radio Row on Thursday and announced that he would become a graduate assistant.
Sapp wanted to go into coaching but had never had the opportunity until now. On paper, this is a small position that will serve as a stepping stone for future development. Deion Sanders knows what kind of coach he needs as another NFL great comes to Boulder.
“I have high expectations for Coach Sapp,” Sanders said last November. “That person is a dear friend whom I have loved my whole life. He will be invaluable in what he brings to the table.” Sapp has been participating in the program for a short time, starting last year.
He returned to school to complete his degree with the intention of joining Sanders’ team. Ironically, this is exactly the path Coach Prime took before heading to Jackson State. The Beast Quarterback was a feared player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining the Oakland Raiders and ending his NFL career in 2007.
Sapp later became a media commentator. The Buffs are expected to have the biggest impact on the American NFL. There are plenty of programs that claim to bring back alumni and produce league players, but only one of them will be in the Hall of Fame on a daily basis.
This is a huge step forward in the direction CU has been taking under Karl Dorrell. Sanders and his staff have secured one of the best integrated recruiting processes available today.
They will also have the opportunity to nab a few more players who hit the transfer portal after spring training. This move would put the Buffs in a fight for control of the Big 12 in their first year in the conference.
