SEC offseason talk dominated by Georgia, new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer
The school football talk never stops, so it wasn’t so was business as usual to hear babble on the SEC Organization on Friday about the goings on at Alabama and Georgia.
One has nothing to do with the other, right now, as the two projects are profound into their arrangements for the spring football meetings. The Tide, with first-year mentor Kalen DeBoer, clearly comes up short on coherence Kirby Shrewd has at Georgia.
Alabama is as yet scrambling to fill its staff after long-lasting DeBoer hostile organizer — and play guest — Ryan Grubb attacked facilitator work with the Seattle Seahawks. DeBoer’s hostile line mentor, Scott Spat, likewise passed on the Tide to work with the Seattle Seahawks. It’s an agitated circumstance no doubt, thought Georgia has its difficulties, as well.
The two teams that have topped the SEC the past four seasons can be summarized in three ways:
Texas poses a threat.
While Kirby Smart and his staff are mostly focused on the Georgia players, observers and fans are eager for the season to begin.
While many fans are excited about the Bulldogs’ upcoming trip to Tuscaloosa, more conversation has focused on Georgia’s upcoming first-ever trip to Austin since 1958.
The same weekend sees an F-1 race in Austin, so airfare and hotel accommodations are in high demand.
Heather Dinich, an ESPN CFP expert, named the Georgia-Texas game as the top matchup with the most ramifications for the 12-team playoff field.
GameDay with Nick Saban
One of the most intriguing and engaging coaches in the league, Saban’s historical success lends instant legitimacy, so fans eagerly await his arrival on the College GameDay stage.
It’s likely that the former Alabama coach will continue to prioritize his health despite his long-standing concerns about how he will feel without football.
So much so, in fact, that it wouldn’t be wholly out of the question to speculate as to whether Saban would ever feel the need to rejoin the sidelines.
The SEC competition is relieved that Saban is currently a television analyst.
The DeBoer learning curve
DeBoer was thrust into the SEC without any prior league experience in order to get a feel for the environment.
Further, DeBoer has had to scratch together a staff quickly — one that the vast majority of Alabama players did not sign up to play for.
DeBoer has precious little time to win over the players, as another transfer portal window will open up the second half of April. It’s not a stretch to project more turnover in Tuscaloosa before the start of next season.
