Genesis Invitational prize money: How much each player earns Tiger Woods wins nothing
Tiger Woods was unable to capitalize on his $4 million first-place prize at the Genesis Invitational after being forced to withdraw from the tournament due to illness.
Hideki Matsuyama impressively came back from a six-stroke lead to win the Genesis Invitational and earn $4 million. The victory marks the Japanese golfer’s first PGA Tour victory since January 2022.
Amid the excitement over Matsuyama’s spectacular victory, it is worth noting the significant wins achieved by all participants throughout the event. Matsuyama was followed by Will Zalatoris and Luke List, completing the list of players with prize money exceeding $1 million. They tied for second at the Genesis Invitational with -14 points.
Tiger Woods started on the PGA Tour for the first time since April of last year, but did not make any money from the tournament after being unable to compete due to illness.
Despite the ups and downs (72, 1 stroke) in the first round on Thursday, Woods recorded 5 birdies, 6 bogeys, and an unexpected bogey. The golf legend attributed the miss to back spasms. He started the second round with a birdie, but partner Gary Woodland later admitted Woods was out. He was reported to have made several bathroom stops, and on the seventh hole Woods was forced to leave and tour regulations official Pete Dachisen escorted him to the clubhouse.
Jordan Spieth was another big name who did not finish the competition as he was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. He accidentally signed a par on his scorecard on the par-3 4th hole in the second round.
He made bogey after his tee shot missed the green, then missed a 5-foot putt to save par by just inches. The bogey was immediately listed on the leaderboard, but Spieth was automatically disqualified from the tournament due to an incorrect signature on the score sheet after submitting it after the round. Then he will take full responsibility for his social media mistakes.
Neither Spieth nor Woods made a dime by missing the weekend, and like all of the players who missed the cut, they ended up at the top of the field at the halfway point.
