There is no doubt that Tiger Woods will win again this year, as he sets his sights on the Masters.
Tiger Woods’ comeback to the PGA Tour got off to a short-lived start as he had to pull out of the Genesis Invitational due to illness, marking another setback in his physical condition.
Despite his ongoing fitness battles, Tiger Woods is predicted to achieve a record-breaking 83rd PGA Tour victory this season.
Last week at the Genesis Invitational, Woods made his debut of the campaign. However, as has frequently been observed in recent years with him attempting a comeback, it was short-lived. Following an initial score of one-over-par 72 on Thursday’s opening round held at Riviera, he withdrew just six holes into Round Two and ended his stint prematurely.
Starting off Friday’s game with a birdie, two bogeys and three pars, the 15-time major champion withdrew from the competition due to an illness that forced him to be carted off of the course.
After his withdrawal, an ambulance showed up at the scene but Woods chose to leave in a car. He disclosed that he pulled out due to suffering from influenza. “I want to confirm I had no choice but to withdraw from @thegenesisinv because of illness, which has since been identified as influenza,” he shared on social media platform(s). “I’m taking it easy and feeling improved.”
Woods and his body have been through a series of injury troubles in recent times, including the latest setback caused by illness. The car accident Woods suffered in 2021 added to his already existing woes. Despite concerns that he may not make it back onto the field after the incident three years ago, Woods made an astonishing comeback at the 2022 Masters tournament.
However, Woods has only participated in six PGA Tour events since then and withdrew from three of them, including last Friday. Nevertheless, Dame Laura Davies – a former champion herself- is confident that the ex-world No. 1 still possesses the skills needed to surpass every other player on the tour as its most successful participant ever.
Davies from Sky Sports commented that on Thursday, the way Tiger was driving seemed scrappy as he lost five shots which is not characteristic of him. Additionally, on Friday he had already dropped a couple more. Davies believes if Tiger can maintain his performance while driving consistently well, then there may be an improvement in his irons play too.”
“They’ve displayed some looseness lately. The putting has been exceptional, particularly with him sinking those crucial putts that are five to ten feet long. Many of these were for saving pars yesterday and he made them all successfully. I believe we have much to anticipate as his body appears in sound condition, indicating good news ahead if he maintains fitness levels.”
Woods holds the belief that he can achieve championship status once more prior to retiring from his PGA Tour career. However, speculation surrounding his future escalated after withdrawing yet again. Despite this setback, during a recent visit to Los Angeles, Woods announced that quitting the game is difficult for him due to his passion and affection towards it.
Woods expressed his affection for competing, playing and being involved in the game of golf. He considers it to be a lifelong pursuit that he doesn’t want to give up as he loves taking part in discussions spanning different eras while enjoying some healthy rivalry. The prospect of losing this cherished passion does not sit well with him at all.
