Roderick Robinson ready to power up Georgia backfield, return to ‘RBU’

This season, Georgia football is poised to make another attempt at becoming known as “RBU”.

Roderick Robinson, a sophomore, envisions greater potential for the Bulldogs’ rushing offense given their impressive third-place ranking in last season’s SEC with an average of 191.2 ground yards per game.

Robinson expressed his desire to obtain the “RBU” title during a recent interview with Aaron Murray in the Player’s Lounge when asked about Trevor Etienne, who recently transferred from Florida.

Playing with the best is a prerequisite to achieving excellence.

Without a doubt, Rod Robinson is expected to be among the finest in Georgia as he showcased his abilities by achieving 70 yards on just 7 carries during their triumphant 63-3 victory against Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

After adapting to the college game, Robinson is expected to demonstrate greater athleticism and running abilities given his 6-foot stature and 240-pound body.

Robinson stated that during his high school years, he simply received the ball and ran without much thought. However, in college football, it is necessary to patiently await for one’s blockers to set up before making a move while also being aware of potential obstacles.

“There’s a great deal of mental involvement required.”

During the freshman season of Robinson from Lincoln High School in San Diego, he scored touchdowns during his initial two games which impressed Kirby Smart. He observed that Robinson possessed the skill to evade defenders and make them miss early on in the season.

“The primary characteristic of a running back is to hold onto the ball and evade defenders,” stated Smart.

“He could improve his ability to run behind his pads as a big man, but there were some positive things he did.”

Despite growing up in Greenville, S.C., Robinson only moved to California in 2020; nevertheless, he’s now prepared to assert himself more confidently and leverage his physical dimensions for greater impact.

“Being a big, physical running back has its ups and downs,” Robinson stated. “People always aim to tackle you low.”

However, I consider this a benefit as it often allows me to anticipate the defender’s movements and react more effectively when they attempt to tackle.

According to Robinson, his possession of a rare combination of power and athleticism sometimes causes defenders to simply rebound off him.

Robinson’s talents could have been showcased more to Georgia fans during the previous season if he had not incurred an ankle injury while playing against South Carolina in the third game of that year.

With everything in place, Robinson is all set to go and has full faith that the inclusion of Etienne will bring about further enhancements for their team.

Robinson stated that he believes it will improve everyone’s gameplay and lead to overall improvement.
