Johnny Manziel expresses his willingness to “sign away” his life, to play for Deion Sanders
A previous recipient of the Heisman Trophy revealed information about his association with Coach Prime.
Shannon Sharpe’s interviewing skills are unmatched by few, as evidenced once again this week when he interviewed Johnny Manziel on his show Club Shay Shay.
The exceptional two-hour episode explored various aspects of the ex-college star’s tainted past as well as his current endeavors. One interesting topic raised was the “Prime Effect” in Boulder, and although Manziel’s response wasn’t unexpected, he hopes to convey a clear message to potential recruits.
“Sanders and I have shared a wonderful bond for several years,” stated Manziel. “In retrospect, he must have recognised something exceptional in me because he would often intervene or send affectionate messages without any obligation on his part.”
As a college student today, it’s obvious that Texas A&M is the top school nationwide. However, as for my second choice, I would opt to play under someone like Coach Prime -a man who serves as a true role model and embodies leadership qualities. In fact, if given the opportunity and viewed things from an alternative point of view… let’s say I were father looking to get their son into coaching: without hesitation or uncertainty -I’d send them straight to Coach Prime.”
Throughout the years, Sanders has remained a staunch supporter of Manziel since his days playing under Friday Night lights in Texas. Despite Prime’s transition to broadcasting and the former Aggies’ brief stint in the NFL, they’ve managed to keep in touch.
Manziel spoke to Sharpie and discussed several topics, including his potential commitment to the University of Texas, losing 40 pounds as a result of drug abuse, and his estimated value under NIL at Texas A&M. He also expressed his opinion on the “Heisman curse”, an idea that has been shared by previous winners.
It remains to be seen if Coach Prime will invite Manziel to the campus this year, providing a fresh perspective and spurring motivation among the Buffaloes.
