Anthony Kim is set to make his long-awaited comeback in LIV Golf.
According to reports, Anthony Kim is set to make a comeback in professional competitions after weeks of rumors and discussions.
Golf Channel, citing several sources, reported that Kim will make his return to professional golf next week in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the LIV Golf event. The 38-year-old has not played since 2012 and will participate as a designated “wildcard” player – an option introduced by the league this year- which allows him to play individually rather than on one of LIV’s teams.
Due to the current LIV tensions, Tiger Woods is uncertain about how the Masters Champions Dinner will unfold. Nonetheless, he believes it’s crucial to pay tribute to Scottie and honor him appropriately.
Kim had a career full of potential and talent that was unfortunately hampered by constant injuries. He has remained an enigmatic figure since the PGA Tour due to his leg injury in 2012 at the Wells Fargo Championship, only appearing periodically through shared videos hitting balls on a driving range. In 2014, Golf.com revealed that Kim wasn’t returning because he collected on a $10 million insurance policy preventing him from competing again.
Recently, there has been speculation that Kim might join LIV due to the possibility of receiving greater upfront payments from the Saudis compared to what they would pay for insurance.
With his exceptional skills, charismatic persona, and a Nike deal in tow with none other than Tiger Woods himself, Kim skyrocketed to fame during the late 2000s. He cemented his position as one of the major rising stars on PGA Tour after bagging three wins before hitting age 25 – an elite group that also included legends like Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Adam Scott at the time.
In addition to his victories, Kim had other noteworthy achievements throughout his career. During the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla, he played a significant role in securing a win for the U.S team by soundly defeating Garcia with a score of 5 and 4 during Sunday’s singles match. The following year, while competing in the Presidents Cup at Harding Park, Kim helped lead another American triumph with an impressive record of three wins out of four matches played. At the much-anticipated Masters tournament held in 2009, Kim impressed spectators by scoring an exceptional round two total of sixty-five strokes and recording eleven birdies along the way – thus proving himself as one worthy opponent within such high-level competition settings. Although Mickelson ultimately emerged victorious that year after their head-to-head battle on Augusta National Golf Club’s challenging course greenscape; still it is worth mentioning how close Kim came to success too: earning third-place honors all alone among so many other top-ranked players from around world gathered together there!
One week ahead of the Masters, Kim secured his final tour victory at the Shell Houston Open.
During a scarcely occuring interview with the Associated Press in 2015, Kim reminisced about golf as “a cherished memory of mine.”
However, he did not promise to play at any point and it has been almost nine years since that discussion.
Kim stated that due to multiple injuries, such as rotator cuff, labrum tear, spinal fusion and hand injury; she has a considerable amount of progress to achieve. She further added that within the past three-and-a-half years alone, she underwent six or seven surgeries.
