Tiger Woods remained silent towards Jon Rahm after LIV Golf transition, as revealed by Jon Rahm.
The departure of Jon Rahm from the PGA Tour and his move to LIV Golf caused a stir in the world of golf, sparking numerous opinions for and against.
During the Sunday morning broadcasts of ESPN’s SportsCenter, Rahm disclosed that he received two contrasting reactions from golf’s prominent figures who are also known to be LIV’s major detractors.
In a pre-produced segment for ESPN’s Marty Smith, Rahm stated that Rory was supportive of his decision both publicly and privately.
Rahm’s remarks reference McIlroy’s statements following Rahm’s surprising decision in December. Following the announcement, McIlroy advocated for modifications to Ryder Cup eligibility regulations so that Rahm could remain on the team in 2025.
In January, he retracted some of his toughest criticisms aimed at players who departed for the Saudi-funded league.
During an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap, he admitted that he may have been too critical of the guys who chose to attend LIV Golf initially. He realized afterwards that not everyone was in his or Tiger Woods’ position and it was a mistake on his part to judge them hastily.
He had a complete turnaround by month-end, advocating for LIV players to return on the PGA Tour. This was something that would have been unthinkable before Rahm left.
Despite mentioning Tiger Woods as someone in a comparable situation to himself regarding evaluating LIV, Rory McIlroy noted that Rahm has not received the same level of endorsement from Woods.
When asked if he had received messages from McIlroy and Woods, Rahm replied with a negative response towards Tiger. He explained that although he did text him during the signing process to let him know about his personal decision, other people reached out as well.
Jon Rahm reveals that his decision regarding LIV was based on two key factors, highlighting that feelings are subject to change.
Rahm didn’t provide any additional details about his communication with Woods.
Woods has made scarce public appearances since Rahm left. He was questioned twice at the PNC Championship regarding their relationship, but provided little revelation on it.
During the PNC, Woods noted that there had been ongoing discussions about certain players leaving over the years. The speculation was fueled by rumors of some individuals departing and others remaining, but it was difficult to know for sure whether any of these claims would come to fruition until they actually did. Ultimately, Woods believed that it is best not to put too much stock in hearsay until concrete evidence supporting or refuting such talk emerges.
There were no inquiries about Rahm directed towards him at the Genesis Invitational last week, prior to his withdrawal from the event due to flu symptoms.
Despite his intention to continue participating in PGA and DP World Tour events, Rahm hasn’t conversed with other major figures such as Jay Monahan – the Commissioner of the PGA Tour. Furthermore, Woods is not the only renowned name from this league whom he has yet to communicate with following his switch to LIV Golf.
Rahm stated, “He seems occupied with work to engage in conversation with me.”
