Anthony Kim demonstrates his swing and continues to execute techniques that Woods hasn’t witnessed yet.
Later this week, Anthony Kim is set to make his debut in LIV Golf at Royal Greens in Saudi Arabia. This will be the first time he competes professionally after a 12-year hiatus from golf.
Ahead of his LIV Golf debut this week, the much-overlooked Anthony Kim has demonstrated his swing to the world yet again. Remarkably, he continues to employ a technique that even Tiger Woods, one of golf’s greatest players, had not previously witnessed.
After struggling with a series of fitness issues, Kim withdrew from competitive golf following the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship. However, after an absence of twelve years, the American golfer will make his debut on the LIV setup in Jeddah this Friday.
After exploring the Saudi range on Tuesday morning, the 38-year-old artist presented a glimpse of what his fans have been deprived of for ten years and what they should anticipate this week.
Andy Carter Golf recently shared a video clip on social media featuring Kim going through his iron shot routine during practice. The technique he showcased is synonymous with the one that caught Woods’ attention around 15 years ago when Kim first burst onto the scene. Around 2008, Woods praised Kim’s unique playing style saying “He’s the only player I’ve ever seen that actually plays pretty much the entire bag choked up.”
A significant degree of control is attainable by using this technique. Your shots tend to remain on course and not veer off too far. Employing this method results in achieving a very straight shot, which can be remarkable. Astonishingly, many amateur players choose not to utilize it even though they grip the club like one would hold a baseball bat – with their pinky finger detached from the club – because some professionals suggest that holding onto the extreme end of the stick initiates more movement at its base for delivering greater power during swings.
During the beginning of his career, a youthful Kim was likened to the 82-time PGA Tour victor following his triumph in three tour events within two years from 2008 to 2010. Nevertheless, injury woes stifled the American’s progress during his subsequent two seasons.
Despite taking a recent break from the game, Kim’s potential to excel in professional golf was doubted. Nonetheless, he couldn’t resist being part of the impressive LIV setup and has decided to return – especially as he previously shone on Ryder Cup stages. His comeback had been rumoured since earlier this year where talks with both PGA Tour and rival league were said to have taken place.
Kim has chosen to focus on LIV and was greeted by the CEO of the series, Greg Norman. “He exudes remarkable talent,” gushed Norman on X (previously known as Twitter). We knew it from before, and now I’m thrilled as Commissioner of LIV Golf to grant this superstar a chance for renaissance.
Welcome back to the LIV Golf family, my friend. Your absence from the golf world has certainly been felt. It’s no surprise that Kim was offered an impressive pay package of up to £6 million to join Saudi Arabia’s breakaway league and secure one of two wildcard spots, alongside Hudson Swafford.
