Rahm discloses the primary reason for his departure from PGA Tour and switch to LIV Golf.

In December, Jon Rahm’s departure from the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf caused a stir in the golfing community. Recently, he elaborated on his reasons for making this choice.

According to Jon Rahm, he cannot deny that his decision to join LIV Golf was driven by financial reasons.

In December, the winner of 2023 Masters tournament from Spain surprised everyone by switching to LIV Golf despite previously being a devoted loyalist to PGA Tour. Rahm clarified that although he acknowledged the lucrative financial aspect, his decision was motivated by several other factors as well.

Following his impressive performances at the Mayakoba (Mexico) and Las Vegas events, where he secured third and eighth place finishes respectively, Rahm has delved deeper into his reasons for joining LIV Golf.

During a one-on-one interview with ESPN, Rahm expressed his reluctance to overlook this juncture as it holds great significance – the golfers’ mode of compensation has undergone substantial change. “To be honest,” he added, “it is pivotal in my decision-making process. In summary, I’ll get higher remuneration for playing the same game while also having more leisure time; that’s an enticing prospect.”

Two years back, Rahm pledged allegiance to the PGA Tour and turned heads in the golfing community due to his unwavering commitment.

In his declaration, he affirmed his loyalty to the PGA Tour and declared himself a PAC member. He expressed confidence in Jay Monahan as well as in the future of their product. While there has been much discussion about the Saudi League, he stated that it does not align with his vision for golf’s future nor is it beneficial to him personally. Ultimately, he believes that by staying committed to the PGA Tour will lead to leaving behind a meaningful legacy on this sport.

Rahm was pressured to explain why he changed his stance. He clarified, “There were changes in certain conditions since I made that statement. A collaboration framework between the PGA Tour and PIF has been established for future cooperation.”

“It made me realize that I’ve been a bit narrow-minded about this and perhaps I should be more open to giving it a try. As both an athlete and entertainer, I believe it’s important for me to explore the opposite perspective.”

Rahm was aware of the significant impact his decision to join LIV Golf would have and confessed that he felt anxious about how it might be perceived. He expressed, “My biggest worry was potentially facing negative media criticism.” However, Rahm believes that if you see an opportunity for growth or advancement in your career similar to attending job interviews is acceptable as long as one has the option.

As a husband and father, it is my responsibility to ensure the well-being of myself and my family. Therefore, I firmly believe that I have the autonomy to make decisions in our best interest without any interference. Despite already enjoying considerable privilege, it is still essential for me as a provider to do everything possible for those closest to me – no exceptions made.
