Due to her father Tiger Woods’ apathy, his daughter Sam’s aspiration of making it to the regional final was crushed.
Tiger Woods was questioned by GOLF.com in 2018 about whether his children were interested in pursuing a career in golf. According to him, they are not particularly inclined towards it and instead have an inclination for soccer.
After six years, Charlie Woods has become a renowned figure in the realm of golf due to his striking similarity to his father’s abilities and behavior.
Sam Woods, however, has remained consistently passionate about soccer and even participated in regional competitions as a member of the Benjamin Buccaneers.
The team’s remarkable season, however, concluded in heartbreak.
The Florida High School Athletics Association’s Class 3A Girls Soccer Regional Finals were within reach for the team led by a 19-year-old.
The Benjamin Buccaneers held an outstanding record of 17-0 this season, securing them the top seed in Class 3A and second place in Florida. Their success also earned them a notable No.9 spot among all US teams.
It goes without saying that the King’s Academy Lions, with their impressive 11-4-2 record, were expected to face tough odds. Nevertheless, when the game commenced on February 9th, they proved themselves more challenging than anticipated.
Although Lola Hathorne was absent as their top player, the Lions demonstrated exceptional defensive skills. Similarly impressive were Sam Woods’ Buccaneers. As a result of regulation play ending in a tie with no goals scored, the match progressed into 20 minutes of overtime. Nonetheless, both teams exhibited unwavering determination which resulted in an equally unchanging score line at full-time whistle – 0-0 and consequently led to an inevitable penalty shootout looming on the horizon.
The initial attempt by Sam Woods’ crew was blocked by the Lions goalkeeper. In turn, when the Lions took their chance, they too missed out on scoring with their first penalty shot. As both sides went ahead and hit their succeeding two penalties flawlessly, a deadlock ensued as it stood at 2-2.
After Woods’ team failed to make yet another shot, King’s Academy sensed an opportunity and capitalized on it, taking the lead 3-2. They only needed one more score to secure their win, which they succeeded in doing. Sadly for Woods’ team, this marked not just the end of their unbeaten streak but also brought a close to their season altogether.
