Report: Colts interested in trading La’Jarrius Snead
The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly interested in a potential trade for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Jarius Snead.
USA TODAY Sports’ Tyler Dragon reports multiple teams have expressed interest after the Chiefs placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on their star cornerback ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. The Colts were among a group of teams considering a trade for the Chiefs’ top cornerback.
Sneed still has permission to seek a trade despite the designation. A person with direct knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports that the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars have expressed interest in the Chiefs corner.
Given the Colts’ need at cornerback, Snead is the front office’s best option. He improved his game each season in the NFL and had a great season, helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl again.
Through the 2023 season, Snead had 53 receptions (52%) on 102 targets, 10.3 yards per reception and a passer rating of 66.0, according to Pro Football Focus. The Colts want second-year cornerback Julius Brents to have an edge, but he needs to prove he can stay healthy. They also have promising sophomore Jaylon Jones. But he’s probably better suited as a rotation depth player than a full-time starter.
Adding a talent like Sneed doesn’t come cheap. This would cost the Colts at least a second-day draft pick, after which they would have to sign a contract extension.
But there aren’t many players of Snead’s caliber who fit perfectly into Gus Bradley’s plans, so he’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
