Exclusive; Kevin Kisner—along with Roger Maltbie and Gary Koch—returning to NBC booth at Players Championship
Kevin Kisner, accompanied by some recognizable voices, is set to make a comeback in the NBC Sports booth for the upcoming Players Championship.
On Saturday, the PGA Tour and NBC disclosed that Gary Koch and Roger Maltbie would be included in the network’s broadcasting of TPC Sawgrass, which is considered to be the tour’s premier event.
At 72 years old, Maltbie had achieved five victories on the PGA Tour and transitioned to a career at NBC for 30 years after injuries halted his playing path. Koch, aged 71, garnered six wins during his tour career before working with NBC for twenty-five consecutive years. However, in an effort to “refresh” its broadcast approach, both individuals were released by the network in autumn of 2022.
As the Players approach their 50th anniversary celebrations next week, Maltbie and Koch are set to play integral roles in the broadcast. While Maltbie will take on an on-course reporting role for Thursday and Friday coverage, Koch will join Mike Tirico in the commentary booth.
One of the most unforgettable moments in tournament history was Koch’s exclamation of “Better than most” when commenting on Tiger Woods’ birdie putt during the third round of 2001 Players, a game that Woods ultimately triumphed.
Tommy Roy, the lead golf producer at NBC Sports expressed his excitement about having Roger Maltbie and Gary Koch as commentators for next week’s Players Championship. He claimed that they have been responsible for calling some of the most memorable moments in the tournament over the past thirty years and their inclusion will be a fitting tribute to mark its 50th anniversary.
