According to Kevin Patra’s report on NFL.com, Davis and the Jaguars have come to an agreement for a three-year contract worth $39 million. With up to $50 million in incentives included, this is a lucrative deal even though it doesn’t stretch the Jags’ finances too far.
According to Patra, the current annual average of $13 million for this contract places it at number 23 among all wideouts. This deal is considered level-headed compared to others in free agency where contracts may be excessive.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Davis appeared content with the agreement and expressed his eagerness to go back to his native state.
Davis stated that he would return to playing for Jacksonville and it was a significant move. He also mentioned his salary which is expected to reach $16 million annually, making him content with the decision.
Davis experienced a mixed performance during his time in Buffalo, displaying moments of excellence alongside extended periods of unpredictability. As the 2023 season drew to a close, with the Bills securing five consecutive wins and ultimately clinching the AFC East crown via triumph over Miami Dolphins in their final game, Davis failed to make any receptions throughout four out of eight concluding games.
In 2022, Davis made headlines with his impressive display of four touchdowns and a whopping 200-yard performance in Buffalo’s divisional-round defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, despite high expectations for him to keep up this momentum afterwards, he failed to replicate that level of success. During his time at Buffalo spanning across four seasons altogether, Davis managed a total of 163 catches amounting to 2,730 yards and garnering no less than twenty-seven touchdowns along the way.
Upon the culmination of the previous season, Davis informed journalists that his tenure in Buffalo had been positive but expressed a desire to gauge interest as an unrestricted free agent.
Davis stated that he is open to returning since this was his initial team and he has been with the Bills for four years.
Although I adore Buffalo and all it offers, I believe that exploring other options in March is necessary for the sake of business. As much as it pains me to say, taking advantage of such opportunities should not be overlooked.
Jacksonville will host a reunion of the Bills.
Upon his arrival in Jacksonville, Davis is guaranteed to encounter a familiar countenance. Additionally, the Jaguars have reached an accord with ex-Bills center Mitch Morse who was liberated on March 6th as part of multiple maneuvers aimed at creating over $30 million worth of cap space.
Having departed Buffalo a year prior to Davis’ 2020 selection, Zay Jones has spent the past two seasons as part of the Jacksonville Jaguars receiving squad. During this time, he tallied an impressive record of 116 receptions for 1,144 yards and seven touchdowns across his appearance in twenty-five games.
