Golf News; Rickie Fowler autographs kids’ foreheads as Players Championship gets off to totally normal start
Although not a prominent tournament, the Players Championship marks the informal beginning of golf’s slam season after it was moved to March many years ago. Every spring, top players convene at TPC Sawgrass to eliminate any rust and crowds flock in large numbers throughout the week as if drawn by magic thanks to Pete Dye’s spectacular design.
The result of this has been a lively environment, as well as some peculiar events. On Tuesday, 2015 Players champion Rickie Fowler was seen autographing the foreheads of two young fans which is quite bizarre.
Some small fans were holding their flags, waiting for autographs like usual kids. However, these ones had a different attitude towards it – like they didn’t care at all and just wanted Rick’s signature on their heads. As for the parents’ whereabouts? Who knows… It’s Florida after all.
According to Golf Channel, Fowler’s move of signing babies is reminiscent of Ricky Bobby’s playbook. This strategy seems fitting for the pro golfer who grew up racing motocross. It remains uncertain whether this support from young fans will help him win his second Players or first major victory, but at least he has gained some new supporters along the way.
