The Buffaloes have a different strategy with Sanders staying grounded
Coach Prime’s influence in college football continues to blaze a trail, as evidenced by the latest report. The Hall-of-Famer has recruited some of the country’s most sought-after players without ever leaving Boulder, and this fact has been confirmed by University of Colorado officials following a USA TODAY article.
Deion Sanders has leveraged the Flatirons as a selling point for the program, rather than relying on private air travel to attract recruits. Despite being allotted funds from CU’s budget for this purpose.
Indeed, Sanders’ strategy to bring recruits on campus is a stroke of brilliance as he recognizes its value in showcasing what the university has to offer. Traveling can only accomplish so much and holding visits in Boulder allows him to engage multiple players simultaneously. However, omitted from the report was that Sanders had been sidelined for several months due to blood clots affecting both legs.
Regarding Sanders’ assistant coaches, they have dedicated a significant amount of time to traveling. The report states that the team conducted more than 90 meetings off-campus in the previous year. This level of effort is typical for recruiting efforts and even less strenuous compared to other programs.
USA TODAY Sports has acquired records that reveal Coach Prime was able to forge agreements with prospects without ever venturing off campus. According to the university, since his appointment in December 2022, he hasn’t approached any potential recruits outside of school grounds.
According to the report, former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh holds the record for “145 off-campus contacts” during that same period. This is just for reference.
According to 247Sports, Sanders and the Buffs finalized their official recruiting class for this year with a combined rank of 21. Boulder has welcomed a total of 24 players from the transfer portal thus far, and there is another window that will open before the commencement of the football season in 2024.
