Ex-Bills CB Cryptic post fuels rumors of a potential comeback to Buffalo.
During the offseason, the Buffalo Bills have made moves to improve their secondary by signing fresh contracts with safety Taylor Rapp and defensive back Cam Lewis.
Another former player may soon be following, according to some fans.
Levi Wallace, formerly a player for the Buffalo Bills from 2018 to 2021 and now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has recently fueled rumors of his return to his former team through an Instagram post that hinted at their connection. On March 10th – just before the league’s legal tampering period- he shared several photos which included one featuring him dressed in a Steelers jersey while walking down Highmark Stadium tunnel located in Buffalo.
“In the caption,” wrote Wallace, “you could sense that you missed me.”
Bills fans were left speculating whether the post was hinting at a longing to come back to Buffalo.
Levi Wallace has been linked to bills in the past.
Upon joining the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2018, Wallace rapidly assumed a significant position within their secondary. Throughout the ensuing four seasons, he commenced all 52 games of his appearance and accumulated a total of six interceptions alongside 219 tackles.
Appearing in 18 games over two seasons, the cornerback who is now 28 years old played a smaller role during his time at Pittsburgh, managing to make just six interceptions and record a total of 86 tackles. Confirming that he would not be returning for another season with the Steelers, Wallace had already hinted towards this decision when appearing on “Good Morning Football” on March 8th by stating that he was all set to begin an exciting new chapter in his career.
Wallace expressed excitement at the prospect, stating “I’ve done this before and it never gets old. The chance to join a new team and take on fresh challenges is always invigorating. I’m eager to contribute my skills to their defense in order to make a significant impact.”
In the past, there have been links between Wallace and the Bills. According to Anthony Licciardi of SI.com, the experienced cornerback seemed to be open for trade during last season’s deadline and also posted an enigmatic message on Instagram suggesting a possible reunion with Buffalo.
Licciardi reported in October that the Pittsburgh Steelers had announced rookie corner Joey Porter Jr. as the new starter, replacing Wallace who was mentioned earlier. With this change, it seems that Wallace is no longer needed. The fans of both teams have taken note of this news and Porter added fuel to the fire by posting an Instagram story containing only a single emoji.
Wallace was considered by Licciardi as a potential match for Buffalo, particularly due to the apparent difficulties of second-year cornerback Kaiir Elam.
Licciardi noted that Wallace appears to be a better match for head coach Sean McDermott’s defense than Elam, possibly due to his prior success in the Bills secondary. Additionally, with star corner Tre’Davious White out of commission due to injury, Buffalo is actively seeking options.
Defense becoming a top priority for Bills.
Despite a relatively quiet start to free agency, the Bills have taken steps towards bolstering their defense. They’ve secured Rapp and Lewis with contract re-signings while also securing new deals for defensive end A.J. Epenesa and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones who will be returning to the team.
An insider anticipates that the Bills will pursue Arik Armstead, a defensive lineman who was surprisingly released from the San Francisco 49ers, signaling another significant move on their part.
On X, The Athletic’s Matt Barrows suggested that Buffalo could be a potential destination for Armstead after his release on March 15.
