Exclusive; Ex-Bills Cornerback Visiting NFC Contender After Surprise Release
Tre’Davious White warms up to prepare himself for the Buffalo Bills game.
Tre’Davious White, who was unexpectedly released from the Buffalo Bills, is likely to find a new home soon.
Buffalo recently underwent a significant roster renovation that generated over $30 million in cap space and caused the departure of many experienced players on March 6th. Among them was a former All-Pro cornerback who was released from the team. Despite this setback, he appears to be attracting interest from other organizations as he has arranged two visits scheduled for next week, one of which is with an NFC competitor.
The Pro Bowl cornerback is attracting a growing amount of attention.
Mike Garofolo, an NFL insider, reported on March 17th that White is a target for several teams and has scheduled meetings with the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams this week.
Former #Bills All-Pro and Pro Bowl CB Tre’Davious White has visits scheduled with the #Rams and #Raiders this week, with a few more teams showing interest as well, sources“ say,” Garofolo wrote on X. “White, cut by Buffalo earlier this month, is working his way back from a torn Achilles.”
White solidified his position as a top-tier NFL cornerback during his stint with the Buffalo team. In 2019, he received All-Pro honors for achieving multiple interceptions and leading in this stat category that year. Unfortunately, White also endured two major injuries: an ACL tear during the 2022 season followed by another injury to his Achilles tendon when he returned last year.
Currently, there is no set timeframe for when White will be back playing on the field in 2024. Nevertheless, Brandon Beane (the GM of the Bills) has expressed his confidence that White will recuperate from the injury and exhibit exceptional performance once he returns.
At the team’s end-of-year press conference, Beane praised Tre for his grit and dedication in recovering from a torn ACL injury. He conveyed how much they value him as part of the team and commended his unyielding resolve to come back stronger than ever. Nonetheless, despite an impressive win over Miami Dolphins, unfortunate luck struck when Tre ruptured his Achilles tendon towards the game’s conclusion. Undeterred by yet another hurdle on his journey to recovery, he has demonstrated unwavering persistence in bouncing back just like before.
Although Beane recognized Tre White’s exceptional talent when he was healthy, there were no promises of him staying in Buffalo. As a result, the Bills released him after only one month.
The changes in Buffalo.
2024 will see a revitalized Bills defense as White and several other veterans have departed this offseason. Additionally, the team has parted ways with All-Pro safety Jordan Poyer while Micah Hyde’s future is uncertain following an emotional farewell from his wife to fans.
Beane indicated that Buffalo would welcome Hyde back, however it is unclear if he has communicated his willingness to return.
According to Beane’s remarks on SI.com, it is crucial not to release talented players. He drew from his extensive experience spanning over 26-27 years in the league and noted that he has never seen a safety pair playing together for seven seasons straight under current unrestricted free agency rules. The extended period of their partnership highlights its exceptional nature. Beane questions whether another duo as remarkable as this one will emerge anytime soon, acknowledging their outstanding performance during these unprecedented times.”
By retaining edge rusher A.J. Epenesa and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, the Bills secured that certain players who were headed for free agency will continue to be a part of their team.
