Joshua Dobbs, a former Browns QB who was initially overlooked, has signed with the 49ers.
Joshua Dobbs, the former quarterback for Cleveland Browns, has relocated to a new residence – once more.
According to ESPN, on Monday, March 18th Dobbs inked a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers worth $2.25 million plus an additional $750k in playtime bonuses from the reigning NFC champions.
Dobbs has been a part of six teams, including the 49ers in 2022. He moved around in the previous season after being traded by the Browns to Arizona Cardinals towards training camp’s end. Initially, Dobbs was supposed to be Deshaun Watson’s main backup before this trade happened.
In his tenure with the Cardinals, Dobbs commenced eight games and had a record of 1-7. However, before the trade deadline elapsed, he was dealt to the Minnesota Vikings where he started four times and finished two victories along with two losses.
Overall, Dobbs participated in 12 games as a starter and contributed significantly to the Vikings’ offense for a sizable portion of another game. He completed passes totaling 2,464 yards while amassing 13 touchdowns and committing only 10 interceptions.
It is anticipated that Dobbs will serve as the substitute to Brock Purdy for the 49ers in the upcoming year.
The Browns trade has left Joshua Dobbs feeling “disappointed.”
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns’ decision to trade Dobbs last season came as a surprise and left him feeling disheartened. As for a potential comeback this offseason, it appears that he is not too enthusiastic about it.
According to Cabot, although the Browns considered rehiring Dobbs, he was disheartened by the trade that occurred in August and hence showed little enthusiasm for a comeback.
Last season, the Browns had to rely on five different quarterbacks due to Watson’s two shoulder injuries. The starting lineup included PJ Walker, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Joe Flacco, and Jeff Driskel alongside some others. When asked about trading Dobbs away in hindsight Andrew Berry refused to comment.
During a press conference on November 15, Berry stated that she is not currently concentrating on it and it’s not her top priority at the moment. However, she will reflect upon everything as the year progresses.
Despite their unstable quarterback situation, the Browns managed to qualify for postseason. As a starter in Cleveland, Flacco regained his form and went on to win 4 out of 5 games.
Tyler Huntley Joins Browns Quarterback Unit
This offseason, the quarterback room of the Browns has received a boost in talent. Jameis Winston, who was selected as No.1 overall pick earlier, has been added by Cleveland to support Watson. Additionally, Tyler Huntley – previously from Baltimore Ravens QB- was recently recruited by the team too.
Throughout the offseason, many expected that Flacco would return to the Browns following his impressive performance. Both parties had indicated a willingness to renew their partnership. Nevertheless, without tendering an offer to Flacco, the Browns opted for Winston instead.
Throughout his career, Winston has accumulated 22,104 yards passing with 141 touchdowns and 99 interceptions. As a starter, he holds a record of 34-46 and earned the title of Pro Bowl Champion in his inaugural year as an NFL player back in 2015. For the past four seasons on the field, Winston acted mostly as backup during his time playing for the Saints team.
It was unexpected for Huntley to join the team, which will now make him a contender against Winston as backup. So far, Huntley’s stats include completing 64.6% of his passes totaling 1,957 yards with 8 touchdowns and only having had thrown seven interceptions throughout career; this gives him a quarterback rating of 79.0.Huntley is also skilled in running adding an additional three more touchdowns along with gaining up to five hundred nine ground yards — making him versatile on both frontiers .
Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round pick from last year is highly regarded by the Browns. Nonetheless, it’s evident that the team intends to allow him extra time for his growth and development.
