Coach Prime was honest about not opting to take recruiting trips on the road.
On Wednesday, Deion Sanders conducted his inaugural Spring Practice session press conference. The Colorado Buffaloes coach hadn’t communicated with the media since last season’s conclusion prior to this occasion.
During his time at the podium, Sanders used some of the 25 minutes to respond to an article written by Brett Schrotenboer of USA TODAY. The article lacked context regarding why Sanders did not make any home visits during the recruiting process. In addition, he also answered questions from those present.
Sanders explained that there was an article stating that he does not go on visits. However, his approach differs from other coaches as he considers himself a businessman and tries to save the university’s money whenever possible. He gave an example of how if he were visiting Florida to see IMG, other nearby schools may feel neglected and upset by his absence. This could cause chaos or criticism for Sanders, regardless of which school he decides to visit in the end.
Coach Prime stated that a home visit has never been the sole reason for a recruit’s decision and emphasized his inability to perform actions other coaches may be able to. He attributed this limitation to being himself – Coach Prime.
Sanders’ correctness is undeniable, distinguishing him from other coaches and his unmatched contributions to the game. The reasoning for abstaining from home visits extends beyond what has already been stated, encompassing several depths of explanation.
Coach Prime reported receiving numerous death threats last year. Given this information, it would not be appropriate to have him enter an unsecured environment. Even though Officer Rose and his security team can handle any potential issues that arise, why risk allowing them to occur in the first place?
By conducting his business differently from other players, Sanders has established himself as a pioneer in college football. Additionally, Boulder’s stunning scenery is its biggest advantage when it comes to promoting the program. However, how would one convince a recruit from Florida or Georgia that Flatirons are among the most breathtaking sights worldwide if they can witness their charm firsthand? It’s impossible!
Coach Prime hasn’t resorted to utilizing private air travel as a means of attracting recruits simply because it is unnecessary. The “Prime Effect” in Boulder alone warrants a visit, enabling him to harness his strengths and employ the most effective strategy for recruitment purposes.
According to the report, Colorado’s assistant coaches have had over 90 off-campus meetings in the past year. However, this is a regular occurrence during recruiting and they still travel less than other programs.
Although Sanders spoke about the report, he is not bothered by public opinion on his recruitment methods. In terms of statistics, it has proven to be effective when looking at the success rate. The Buffs have recently completed their official recruiting process for this year and achieved 21st place in the combined ranking class as stated by 247Sports. Furthermore, there are a total of twenty-four players who have transferred from other teams that will now join them in Boulder with an additional window opening before kickoff for the 2024 football season begins.
