Jared Curtis, the nation’s No. 1 junior QB, commits to Georgia football

Recently, there was a high probability that Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis or Jared Curtis would be recruited by Georgia for the Class of 2026.

Earlier this year, Lewis was upgraded to a 5-star in the 2025 class. Although he may still be considering UGA as an option for recruitment, it is much more certain that Curtis will choose to become a ‘Dawg’.

The reason for this is that Curtis, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 225 pounds, committed to UGA on Saturday afternoon. As a result, all the speculation became irrelevant.

Curtis opted for the ‘Dawgs despite receiving offers from top-tier national teams such as Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas. He had 25 touchdowns last autumn via throwing while scoring an additional 13 on foot.

Over the past couple of years, the junior has visited Athens several times and is currently spending an extended period in the city this week.

The 247Sports Composite ratings have ranked the Nashville Christian star (Nashville, Tenn.) as the top quarterback and overall prospect for 2026 in the country. He demonstrated his incredible skills by throwing an impressive total of 38 touchdowns during last fall’s season.

At Nashville Christian, Curtis’s performance in the 2023 season was commendable as he completed 56 percent of his passes for a total distance of 2,522 yards. He made impressive efforts and clinched an overall of twenty-five touchdowns while falling short at nine interceptions. Not only that but he showcased excellent running skills scoring thirteen times with five hundred three rushing yards on board!

The Bulldogs secure their initial commitment for the 2026 cycle, with him being the very first. Notably, Georgia’s success in securing top-tier QB commitments for Kirby Smart’s program has been on an upward trend.

Take a look at the recent past:

Jacob Eason, a highly rated 5-star recruit from the Class of 2016, made his way to Washington after the conclusion of the 2017 season.

After the 2018 season, Justin Fields (Class of 2018) transferred to Ohio State and received a five-star rating.

Brock Vandagriff (Class of 2021) with a five-star rating transferred to Kentucky following the conclusion of the 2023 season.

Dylan Raiola (Class of 2024), a highly-rated athlete, changed his commitment to Nebraska ahead of the early signing period in 2022. He is now considered a five-star recruit for the university’s team.

Jared Curtis (Class of 2026), a five-star recruit, made a commitment to UGA on March 23rd, 2024.

The listing reveals two noteworthy observations: Firstly, elite quarterbacks are readily willing to commit to Georgia; Secondly, the responsibility falls on Georgia’s shoulders to secure one of those committed players and retain them for performance purposes. This is critical because despite winning 50 out of their last 54 games with a streak of 29 consecutive victories along with back-to-back national championships in both 2021 and 2022, it remains uncertain if they can sustain this level without skilled quarterbacking.

Curtis’ recent decision adds more suspense to an already captivating quarterback competition scheduled for the 2025 cycle. The Bulldogs are presently pursuing commitments, including Lewis, a promising prospect alongside highly touted quarterbacks such as 5-star Matt Zollers and 4-star Ryan Montgomery.

This doesn’t imply that either of those quarterbacks would consider a player who is one year younger than them as a significant factor when making their decision. Alpha quarterbacks don’t evaluate depth charts in such a manner while contemplating the ideal college option.

Is Georgia still a possibility for Lewis or has Zollers become the frontrunner? On April 4, Zollers will announce his commitment after recently deciding to do so.

Only two days after completing his final unofficial visit to UGA, he will make his decision.

Who will compete for the starting quarterback position in Athens once Carson Beck finishes his final season this fall – Lewis, Zollers or Montgomery?

Gunner Stockton, a member of the Class of 2022, and Ryan Puglisi, who belongs to the Class of 2024, have already begun working as the second and third string quarterbacks on campus. Irrespective of how they perform in their roles thereon Curtis’ decision today guarantees that someone with a five-star rating – Mike Bobo – will be available as another choice for Bulldogs over several years ahead.
