Breaking; Florida State Basketball Lands Commitment From 2024 Guard Daquan Davis

Florida State and Leonard Hamilton have made a big contribution to the 2024 class by bringing in overtime elite guard Daquan Davis, who is “choosing the Noles over Georgia Tech.” Davis is a top-80 prospect in the 247 rankings and is the smallest guard in FSU history at 6-foot-1 and 176 pounds OTE (I think he’s a little under that size). He is the Seminoles’ smallest player since David Nichols (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) in 2018-19.

Davis, who joined from Providence, is a dynamic scorer who averaged 17.9 points per game in his OTE regular season and 22.1 points per game in the OTE playoffs. He shoots 36% from 3-point range, is very fast, can score in every way, and averages about 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game, which is expected from a player his size who can play right away. He’s a much better defender. He uses physical force to attack and uses his hands to intercept and deflect. It’s been a while since Florida State has had a dynamic guard with this style of play, and I’ll be interested to see how they use him.

This is the second commitment in Florida State’s 2024 recruiting class, with forward AJ Swinton signing with the Noles as a borderline four-star in November. Coach Hamilton would like to acquire at least one more high school player, but no other targets are known beyond Honey Roots, who signed with the University of Michigan and was removed from his national letter of intent before firing Juwan Howard. . Roots ranked FSU in his top three, along with Michigan and Georgia.

Given Davis’ size, a trade for some of the 7-footers in this league likely won’t work out, so I’ll be interested to see if we see a slight change to FSU’s defensive scheme this offseason. Here are some highlights of his pre-OTE journey.

For Florida State, two players (Primo Spears and DeAnte Green) will enter the transfer portal, while they will be in contact with at least 14 players currently in the portal and host multiple visits in the coming weeks. It will be a very active offseason for Florida State University. .
