Rickie Fowler’s stance on Masters proves he meant every word of LIV Golf snub
It’s not surprising that Rickie Fowler refused to join LIV Golf, given his absence from the Masters for three years and failure to qualify in previous Augusta tournaments.
After his resurgence in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), Rickie Fowler will be participating at The Masters tournament for the first time in three years, scheduled next month.
After experiencing a dip in his performance, Fowler, who has won six PGA Tours thus far, did not participate at Augusta National for the past three times. His ranking on the list plummeted as low as 160th in 2022 – miles apart from where he used to stand among the globe’s top five players back in 2016 – causing him difficulty.
During the 2023 campaign, the American star regained his form and emerged victorious at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last July. This was his first PGA Tour title in more than four years.
After making a comeback, he regained his position in the winners’ circle and climbed up the rankings. This secured him a crucial spot at the Masters following an extended absence. Fowler had missed out on going to Augusta last year and expressed how unhappy it made him feel. However, being aware of his progress moving back up in world ranking gave him something optimistic to look forward towards with enthusiasm for participating in Majors again while remaining hopeful about returning to Augusta next year as well!
However, it was disappointing. I found myself watching a considerable amount of it like most people do. While playing golf outdoors, I also streamed some live footage on my mobile phone. However, that experience motivated me to return home sooner than expected.
On this occasion, he won’t have to settle for a cellphone stream after his successful comeback. The American was disappointed about not participating in the majors, making it obvious why he declinedLIV Golf’s offer. Rumors were swirling that the professional golfer could join other major figures like Phil Mickelson,Brooks Koepka, andJon Rahm by defecting to the new league.
Although there was speculation, the American golfer decided to remain committed to the Tour and reaffirmed his position during the recent premiere of Full Swing’s second season. During an interview with Netflix cameras, he admitted that choosing not to join LIV was a better decision for him as a six-time PGA Tour champion.
My motivation for playing on the Tour extends beyond monetary gain; I strive to challenge my skills against the world’s top athletes, and deem this platform as the paramount opportunity. It is my utmost desire that it maintains its status quo.
Without a doubt, joining LIV would have resulted in the American losing his spot at the four majors due to their deficiency of OWGR points. Many prominent players from LIV will not be participating in next month’s flagship event: 2023 champion Talor Gooch is among those absent, along with European veterans Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood who will miss out on competing for the coveted green jacket.
