Insider Reveals; Bills Could Steal 3-Time Pro Bowl WR From Division Rival
Before joining the team, Odell Beckham Jr. was issued an ultimatum by the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite passing on wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in both the 2014 NFL draft and free agency of 2022, insiders speculate that the Buffalo Bills may finally choose to select him should there be a third opportunity.
According to Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report, Buffalo may be the ideal landing spot for Beckham who is now a free agent after an inconsistent season with the Baltimore Ravens. Despite receiving significant interest from the Miami Dolphins and allegedly being presented a contract offer, Davenport speculates that if negotiations fall through between them, then the Bills could capitalize on this opportunity.
According to Davenport, in case the Dolphins deal doesn’t work out, another team from AFC East may consider utilizing Beckham’s services. Despite signing Samuel and Hollins as replacements for Davis who left, the Buffalo Bills still require a tall wide receiver on their roster alongside Diggs. With his stature and capabilities, Beckham would serve this purpose perfectly while also increasing their chances of winning a second Super Bowl trophy.
The Bills may have to act quickly.
Although Davenport suggested that the Bills would be a good match for Beckham, he added that it might not matter. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Beckham and the Dolphins had discussions last week and both parties are keen on coming to terms with a contract agreement.
Adding, Fowler made it clear that the deal is still a work in progress.
Fowler reported on SportsCenter, via Bleacher Report, that Odell Beckham had a meeting with the Miami Dolphins last week and confirmed their interest in him. However, they may have to negotiate his price as overspending is not an option for them due to limited funds. With Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle already on their team, they are seeking a veteran receiver to complete the trio of talented players – hence why there’s mutual interest between both parties.
According to Davenport, Beckham did not meet his $15 million guarantee from the Ravens as he only managed to make 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns in a span of 14 games.
Bills Previously Associated with Odell Beckham Jr.
In the 2014 NFL Draft, instead of selecting either Beckham or Mike Evans, the Bills opted for Sammy Watkins as their No. 4 overall pick and faced some disapproval for this decision. Despite being recognized as a promising prospect initially, Watkins struggled with injuries and inconsistent performance during his time in Buffalo which lasted only three seasons.
In recent years, rumors had connected Beckham to the Bills and even included public efforts from Von Miller to recruit him. As a former teammate of Beckham’s on the 2021 Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams team, Miller held strong belief that he would be joining the Bills in the upcoming year.
According to Miller, during an interview on Richard Sherman’s podcast in October 2022, it has been confirmed that Odell will be joining the Bills. “It’s a done deal. We’re short on receivers and we know he’ll end up with us,” stated Miller confidently about Odell Beckham Jr.’s future team placement.
Beckham’s absence from the entire 2022 season while undergoing rehabilitation for a torn ACL proved Miller’s overconfidence wrong, as Beckham later went on to join the Ravens in the subsequent year.
