13 LIV Golf stars qualified for The Masters after Ian Poulter clarifies position
As the 2024 Masters draws near, only a chosen group of LIV Golf members will have the chance to vie for that elusive green jacket at Augusta. Regrettably, Ian Poulter is not counted among them.
With less than two weeks remaining until The Masters, only 13 players from the LIV Golf circuit have confirmed their participation.
In 2024, there will be a decrease in the number of players vying for the coveted green jacket as LIV Golf’s failure to provide Official World Golf Ranking points leaves some big names unqualified. Despite this, thirteen talented LIV Golf stars have secured their spot at Augusta.
Players who have won The Masters are granted a lifelong spot at the prestigious major tournament. Meanwhile, winning any of golf’s four biggest tournaments entitles players to participate in Augusta for five years as they earn said privilege.
Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Adrian Meronk ,Phil Mickelson, Joaquin Niemann , Patrick Reed Charl Schwartzel, Cameron Smith and Bubba Watson are among the LIV players set to compete at The Masters. Additionally on the list is Jon Rahm who clinched his second major championship four shots ahead of Koepka and Mickelson while defending his title as Masters champion.
Niemann is arguably the most intriguing LIV Golf player participating in the tournament. With two victories already under his belt from four circuit events, he has been granted a unique invitation by organizers and is viewed as one of the frontrunners based on his impressive recent performances.
Ian Poulter, a LIV player who has been one of its strongest supporters since joining in 2022, will not participate in The Masters and instead watch from the sidelines. Despite being 48 years old, he remains an essential member of the organization.
In 2021, the British athlete participated in The Masters for the 16th time and managed to secure a place in the top 10 thrice. Poulter received an invitation from an unidentified member of the tournament’s headquarters to play golf together.
Although there were some speculations of his return to the renowned Augusta course for the tournament, Poulter has stated unequivocally that he will not be participating this year. Via social media, he clarified by saying: “To avoid any confusion, I want to confirm that I have declined The Masters invitation from a member who generously offered it; however, they assured me it’s in great shape.”
The tournament of 2021 was my last competitive Masters, having come up short in the chance I had back in 2019. However, I have no regrets whatsoever as out of the sixteen tournaments that I participated in, only one time did I miss the cut while securing nine top-25 finishes. There is something truly magical about this place!
