Breaking News: 4-star OL commits to Georgia over Clemson, Ohio State

Mason Short’s whirlwind three-month journey has concluded, bringing a sigh of relief in Athens.

The highly sought-after 4-star offensive lineman from Evans (Ga.) made his decision known during a press conference last Friday, announcing his commitment to the University of Georgia. This choice came over other formidable contenders such as Clemson, Ohio State, and Kentucky, with Clemson posing the stiffest competition in his recruitment.

Short revealed his decision to Georgia’s coaching staff during an impromptu visit to the campus earlier in the week. Speaking to Dawgs247, Short emphasized the familial atmosphere cultivated by Georgia since his freshman year, which ultimately swayed his decision.

Despite being committed to Alabama just three months prior, Short’s plans took a dramatic turn following Nick Saban’s retirement, leading him to reconsider his options. Georgia’s head coach, Kirby Smart, made a pivotal impression when he personally visited Short’s high school, prioritizing interactions with Short’s family members.

The in-state allure further solidified Short’s choice. Proximity, coupled with Georgia’s rich football legacy and coaching staff, made it an irresistible option for the Georgia native.

Short’s commitment bolsters Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class, which also includes Ethan Barbour, Elyiss Williams, Bo Walker, Jadon Perlotte, and Stephon Shivers. Notably, he becomes the first offensive lineman to join Stacy Searels’ group for the upcoming season.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 320 pounds, Short ranks as the nation’s No. 8 interior offensive lineman according to the 247Sports composite, sitting at No. 179 overall nationally. With Short onboard, Georgia’s recruiting class for 2025 ascends to the 13th position in the team rankings.
