Breaking; Browns QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson Floated as Potential Trade Bait for Broncos
The Cleveland Browns have a crowded QB room and could move on from Dorian Thompson-Robinson if a team like the Denver Broncos emerges with a need for a QB.
Thompson-Robinson had a busy but uneven rookie season with the Browns. He earned the trust of Cleveland management with a strong preseason. Thompson-Robinson entered the year as Deshaun Watson’s primary backup. Things didn’t go so well when they called his number. The fifth-round pick got off to a 1-2 start with Watson on the sideline, passing for 440 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.
To be fair, Thompson-Robinson had a rough time in his first start. He rushed the first game of the regular season against a brutal Baltimore Ravens defense and had three of his four interceptions in that game. Despite his shortcomings, Thompson-Robinson was able to put up a good enough record to keep teams interested. Jared Muller of Dawg Pound Daily floated the idea of the Denver Broncos participating in a DTR trade.
“Given the supply and demand constraints for top QBs in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Broncos could find an answer at that position by signing Cleveland’s second-year QB,” Mueller said. Told. “Sean Payton is unlikely to be active this season and there is a lack of quality QBs, so trading the pick for DTR makes sense.”
The Broncos parted ways with Russell Wilson this offseason. This leaves Jarrett Stidham at the top of Denver’s depth chart. Next on the list is former Dallas Cowboys defensive end and XFL star Ben DiNucci.
Browns investigating quarterback possibility
The Browns have done their homework on some of the quarterbacks in the draft. The most notable of these is Joe Milton, who should be available in later rounds. Milton is a natural passer, but has elite arm strength and athleticism. He had his pro day on Wednesday, March 27th, running the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds while weighing 245 pounds. Milton recently met with the Browns in Bellaire.
Last season at Tennessee, Milton completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 2,831 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He gained 299 yards and scored seven touchdowns.
The Browns also met with Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt.
Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson ready for full season in Cleveland
The Browns are hoping the backup quarterback position isn’t as debated as it was a year ago. Watson missed two games with a shoulder injury. The Browns started five different quarterbacks and still made the playoffs.
Watson has appeared in just 12 games with the Browns since joining the team via trade in 2022. He hopes to change that this year.
“That’s the plan, just play a full season,” Watson told WEWS Cleveland’s Camryn Justice. “The first year, with everything going on in the NFL, and last year with injuries, it was so out of control. But we have a full season and it’s going to be a special event. I truly believe in that, the organization believes in that, and the locker room believes in that. We are great opponents.
Watson recently started throwing and said he will be ready in Week 1.
