Exclusive; Tiger Woods gives honest verdict on Rory McIlroy’s chances of winning Masters
Tiger Woods has commented on Rory McIlroy’s likelihood of securing the Masters green jacket, a significant addition to his impressive array of golf accomplishments.
Rory McIlroy received support from Tiger Woods to secure a victory at the Masters and attain membership of select career Grand Slam champions.
Having won all four of the Majors, only five men including the American superstar have achieved this feat. McIlroy, who is currently ranked as World No.2, managed to grab a win at the 2014 Open and will be participating for his tenth time on Thursday in hopes of completing his own Grand Slam set.
Woods, who achieved this at his initial 2000 Open endeavor expressed certainty that Rory would inevitably do the same. He believes that Rory’s extraordinary natural abilities will guide him towards triumph in due course as he is set to partake in numerous upcoming events. The key now lies only on timing.
I believe Rory has the potential to become a remarkable Masters champion, possibly even this week. It’s difficult to predict with certainty, but considering his skillset and affinity for playing on this particular course, it is only a matter of time before he achieves greatness.
Only Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Gene Sarazen have achieved a career Grand Slam besides McIlroy. Woods has endorsed him but despite feeling honored, McIlroy stated that it does not guarantee the feat will be accomplished.
In reply, McIlroy expressed his appreciation by saying, “It’s quite an honour. Hearing such a compliment from what I consider the greatest player to ever grace this sport is truly pleasing. Nevertheless, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee that it will come true.”
“He has enough experience in the game to acknowledge my potential. I am also aware of my abilities, having been a skilled player for several decades now. However, it is gratifying to hear him articulate it.”
McIlroy expressed that he will prioritize having fun instead of stressing over winning and achieving a grand slam.
He expressed gratitude for his improved performance since he began here and stated that he possesses the necessary skills to excel this week. However, in order to fully utilize these tools, he believes it is crucially important to enjoy the experience and appreciate the azaleas along the way rather than just focusing on victory.
