Exclusive; Tiger Woods set Ryder Cup deadline after keeping USA chiefs waiting amid Masters bid
While Tiger Woods is being considered as a possible leader for the 2025 Ryder Cup team, he has set his sights solely on winning a sixth Green Jacket by focusing intently on the upcoming Masters event.
Until the end of this month, Tiger Woods will have to make a decision regarding captaining the USA in next year’s Ryder Cup.
The PGA of America has extended an offer to Woods for the captaincy position after their loss against Europe last year. In anticipation of the Masters tournament, Woods divulged that discussions regarding his potential appointment will occur next week.
“After this event, Seth and I will sit down to discuss it further,” he said. “It’s still a topic of conversation for us.”
I informed that I will be occupied for a couple of weeks. Hence, allow me to concentrate on passing this week and possibly acquiring another jacket before discussing it in detail next week.
Woods is confident in his ability to earn a sixth Masters title this year if “everything falls into place”, despite having competed in only six complete Tour events since the major car accident he suffered in February 2021.
“The ankle is no longer in pain,” clarified Woods. “It has fused successfully, which is reassuring. However, other areas of my body now bear the impact. Any shot that isn’t played from a tee box presents difficulty for me. I experience discomfort on a daily basis and find warm and humid conditions preferable.”
“I’m aware that thunderstorms are in the forecast, but on the bright side, it’ll bring some heat which is unlike last year’s weather. If all goes well, I believe I can secure one more item. Is there any necessity to further elaborate or do you have no objections?”
Fred Couples, the 1992 Masters champion, thinks that Woods has a chance to win this year and surpass Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major titles. After playing nine holes with Woods earlier this week, Couples stated that he believes “he can definitely triumph here.”
Observing him play nine holes was impressive, as he never faltered despite it being a typical Tuesday round. While the notion of qualifying might seem daunting to some, I have no doubt that he would find amusement in such an idea given his remarkable talent on the course. His main goal is victory and therefore he has come fully prepared to give every effort necessary towards achieving this objective.
