2024 Masters: LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman spotted at Augusta National
On Wednesday, Augusta National caught sight of Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf.
Last year, Augusta National did not extend an invitation to Norman due to his divisive role in professional golf’s civil war. This absence was noteworthy as officials from other major organizations were present. In 2023, when asked about the situation, Norman revealed that he had only received a grounds pass last year and no invitation this time around. Although disappointed by what he perceived as pettiness on their part, he remained committed to watching the event nonetheless. As a former major winner who had previously been invited without issue, it was surprising for him not be included in such festivities anymore
Fred Ridley, the chairman of the Masters tournament, has confirmed that Greg Norman was not invited to participate in this year’s competition. The club’s focus is on showcasing and honoring their invitation criteria with some of the world’s greatest players participating. Additionally, Mr. Norman has only participated twice as a commentator for Sirius Radio within 10 years; thus keeping attention towards what matters most: The Masters Competition itself!
On Tuesday night this week, Norman was spotted at an Italian pop-up restaurant. The following day, he strolled around the tournament premises and engaged in conversations with a few attendees and players such as Australia’s Min Woo Lee.
Throughout his career, Norman participated in 23 Masters tournaments and was a frequent contender. Although he finished second three times, he is most remembered for the 1996 competition where he lost a six-shot lead on Sunday. His final round score of 78 resulted in him finishing five strokes behind Nick Faldo and cemented his association with this tournament as an unfortunate defeat. At present, Norman is aged sixty-nine.
While the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s financial supporter, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, is still negotiating a possible long-lasting peace agreement, Norman shows up.
