Greg Norman ‘denied’ Masters tickets, according to son, had to buy on secondary market
It appears as though Greg Norman has been denied once more at Augusta National, this time not on the course but in his third attempt to win the Masters. As a three-time runner-up, he unfortunately fell short again.
On Wednesday, the Par-3 Contest at Augusta National saw the presence of a noteworthy personality – none other than CEO of LIV Golf and World Golf Hall of Famer. Norman was seen walking outside the ropes, observing some LIV golfers master their short irons. This unexpected appearance set tongues wagging amongst spectators present as well as those tuning in from home since Norman is a two-time Open champion but surprisingly failed to receive an invitation for next year’s major tournament reserved typically for former champions.
Last year, Fred Ridley stated that an invitation was not offered to Mr. Norman due to the primary issue of maintaining focus on the Masters competition and its participants; honoring the greatest players in the world aligned with their updated invitation criteria implemented in December.
At first, the manner in which The Shark entered through the gates this year was ambiguous. However, his son Greg Norman Jr., elucidated by utilizing social media on Thursday.
“Indeed, all of this is accurate,” remarked Greg Norman Jr. He disclosed that his father bought a ticket from the secondary market to become an attendee at the Masters as a patron since he was turned down after applying through professional means. Nonetheless, he still made sure to attend in support of LIV players.”
Walking outside the ropes, he was approached by hundreds of golf fans who showered him and LIV with positive support. It was an incredible experience as not a single person uttered any negative comments towards him.
The reason for my post is to emphasize that despite receiving loads of hatred in the past, it mainly originates from adversaries who entail monetary gain or from malicious trolls lurking around cyberspace. Conversely, we have come across a considerable number of people who are optimistic and supportive individuals rooting for LIV; others merely admire golf as a sport.
Therefore, with this in mind, let us raise a toast to an unforgettable Masters tournament. Throughout the four days of competition, we will set aside any negativity and simply enjoy watching as a skilled athlete claims the prestigious green jacket.
According to a report from The Washington Post released later, it was revealed that Norman and two LIV executives entered the course through the main gate without waiting for an invitation. Golf Digest attempted to inquire about whether or not an invitation had been extended by Augusta National but received no response.
In expressing his desire, Greg Norman voiced his hope for greater representation of golfers from the Saudi-supported league at future Masters tournaments. Moreover, he expressed support for one of his LIV players in their quest to wear the prestigious green jacket post a 72-hole triumph. One could only imagine receiving ticket payment online and discovering that The Shark himself was your customer; surely unbeknownst to some unfortunate spectator who may have felt Augusta National’s wrath as a result.
Norman explained that he is present at Augusta because although they only have 13 players, those individuals possess a collective of 10 Masters victories. He clarified that his purpose there is to show support and encourage them by demonstrating the boss’s unwavering backing.
