Breaking; Tiger Woods breaks Masters record as PGA Tour legend makes cut at Augusta National

By securing a weekend spot at the Masters Tournament this week, Tiger Woods has once again cemented his name in Augusta National’s history books.

After completing his second round on Friday, Tiger Woods secured a place in the weekend rounds of the Masters Tournament and simultaneously broke an unprecedented record for consecutive cuts made.

This week marks Woods’ second outing of the season at Augusta National. Despite this, he remains a strong contender for victory as he has managed to make it past the halfway-point cut. He currently sits at one-over-par after completing 24 consecutive cuts in his opening major championship of each year – an impressive feat considering he is a five-time champion at the event.

By doing this, he surpasses the number of cuts made by Augusta’s legendary golfers Fred Couples and Gary Player with a record-breaking 23. He had set this same mark last year but was unable to continue due to an injury before round three.

Although Woods has faced many documented fitness challenges, he appears more at ease on his feet this time around. Despite battling through 23 holes due to a rain delay on Thursday and still qualifying for the weekend competition, Friday’s round was physically demanding on his body.

After winning the PGA Tour 82 times, Woods resumed his opening round at 8:00 a.m. local time and promptly played his second round. Despite facing challenges, he demonstrated great skill by shooting a level-par 72 after an initial one-over par score of 73.

Round two kicked off with a tumultuous start, as the 15-time major winner achieved three birdies and suffered from three bogeys during his initial nine holes. However, in true Woods fashion, he regained composure after completing the front nine.

Although he had a bogey at the 14th, which was his only mistake on the back-nine, Woods made up for it by scoring a birdie at 15. His objective now is to finish all 72 holes successfully; something that has been challenging for him in recent times.

Woods has only managed to complete all four rounds of a tournament three times since he sustained career-threatening injuries in a car crash back in February 2021. Although appearing at ease, the 48-year-old continues to acknowledge his continuous struggle with physical ailments.

He was recently faced with a setback due to an ankle injury that caused him to withdraw from last year’s Masters, but he has since undergone extensive treatment. Prior to the tournament, he announced: “I am glad to say that my ankle is no longer causing any discomfort.”

My fusion is secure. It’s not going to budge, which I’m okay with. Unfortunately, my other body parts have to bear the consequences now. However, there’s still a silver lining – despite experiencing constant pain and discomfort every single day, hot weather seems to alleviate it slightly. Smiling wryly afterwards: “Nope I can’t catch break on that front either! Thunderstorms are incoming again this year but at least they’ll bring some heat along.”
