Greg Norman shares ‘powerful and heartbreaking’ reactions from Masters participants
LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman returned to Augusta National as a spectator for this weekend’s Masters. Norman gained a new perspective on the tournament during the second round and spent time with fans. According to the CEO, many of these fans shared touching sentiments about him and his commitment to the sport as a whole.
Norman said on his own Instagram account.
“The few days he spent at Augusta were very powerful and emotional, walking behind the ropes for the first time in his life and soaking in the heartbeat of the golfers, the patrons.
He said hundreds, if not thousands, of people unanimously supported his LIV golf efforts. He shared some of the things that were said to him that really moved him.
“It was humbling and moving. And I was captivated by the words of encouragement: ‘Thank you for all you do for golf. Don’t stop.’ Love, LIV,” and personally as well. What touched me emotionally was “Welcome Home.”
The LIV Golf CEO admitted that his right hand hurt from shaking hands and kissing so many fans. After calling Golf a winner, he continued:
“Thank you everyone for the incredibly emotional three days! To everyone participating in today’s final round, enjoy the pure game that lies ahead, stay focused and play hard. You always win at golf!
Norman had not been invited by Augusta President Fred Ridley, but he decided to come himself.
Does anyone at LIV Golf have a chance to win the Masters? Bryson DeChambeau started the tournament off strong with a 7-under 65 in the first round. He led after the first round, giving LIV Golf its best chance to claim the PGA Tour crown at the Masters. He’s slumped a bit since then, but still has his best chance yet. Although he is four strokes behind Scottie Scheffler, he is still three strokes under par and within striking distance of the lead. That’s more than most LIV players can say. Patrick Reed he has one and defending champion Jon Rahm he has a great five. Phil Mickelson has a lead of six, but several others don’t even qualify.
