A ‘Breakout’ Wide Receiver Prospect Holds Private Workout With Bills.
The Buffalo Bills are giving their focus to wide receiver Xavier Legette as the NFL Draft is set to start in only two days.
On April 23, Ryan Talbot from Syracuse.com revealed that the Bills conducted a confidential practice session with a South Carolina receiver who is highly regarded as first-round material. Prior to the draft, Buffalo has been in discussions with numerous other receivers and industry commentators speculate they will choose a pass-catcher for their initial pick after losing Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.
Earlier this year, Xavier Legette had a meeting with Bills.
Legette had already been interviewed by the Bills at the NFL Combine back in March, and subsequently expressed admiration for quarterback Josh Allen.
In an interview with reporter Josh Reed on X, Legette expressed his belief that he could assist the team if given the opportunity as he thinks highly of their quarterback.
Expressing his satisfaction, the receiver stated that he had a productive meeting with the Bills and showed keen interest in joining them to play in Buffalo.
Legette expressed satisfaction with the interview, stating that they had a great conversation and felt positive about it. Legette also shared their hope for those involved to bring any possible future plans into fruition.
Legette is widely believed by analysts to be a suitable candidate for the Bills, who are lacking in talent following the departure of their two primary receivers. According to Nick Wojton from USA Today’s Bills Wire, Legette had an impressive season with South Carolina in 2023 where he made 71 catches accumulating 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns across twelve games. This was seen as his breakthrough year.
Despite Legette’s lack of notable performance in college until 2023, he caught the attention of scouts with his impressive sprint time of 4.39 seconds and a noteworthy display at the Senior Bowl.
According to ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr., “Initially, I considered Legette a player with uncertain prospects. However, his performance in the Senior Bowl and remarkable workout at the combine have convinced me that he will be selected somewhere between picks 23 through 32.”
Bigger move could be pursued by Bills.
Despite the possibility of acquiring Legette at their current No. 28 position, certain analysts predict that the Bills will engage in a more daring trade with the Houston Texans to compensate for Diggs’ absence.
On April 16, The Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi anticipated in a hypothetical draft that the Bills would maneuver into acquiring the No. 4 overall pick via trade with the Arizona Cardinals, at considerable cost of multiple picks this year and including their first-rounder next year. This strategic move affords them an opportunity to snatch Marvin Harrison Jr., who is regarded as one of the most promising wide receiver prospects on offer.
According to Maaddi’s writing, the Bills are feeling pressure to secure a Super Bowl victory and require a new leading receiver following their trade for Diggs. Harrison is proposed as a potential fit for this role. Despite making first-round trades in consecutive years, it has been ten years since they last made such an extensive leap up draft picks. In 2014, Buffalo traded up to fourth place in order to acquire Sammy Watkins as their wide receiver pick.
