Breaking; Ex-Browns WR Jarvis Landry Sends 2-Word Message on Comeback
Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry is preparing to return to the NFL.
Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry is preparing to return. Landry spent last year without a team, but he doesn’t want that to happen again. The 31-year-old former Pro Bowler has worked hard this offseason in hopes of getting another shot in the NFL. Landry posted a video of the workout on social media with the simple caption, “Pay the rent.”
The video shows Landry practicing, running routes and catching balls. It ends with the words “Ready”.
Landry last played for his hometown Saints in the 2022 season. However, he only appeared in nine games. Landry was limited to catching 25 passes, one touchdown, and 272 yards due to injury. New Orleans decided not to bring him back.
In its heyday, Landry was a prey. He made five consecutive Pro Bowl appearances with the Miami Dolphins and Browns from 2015 to 2019. Landry has 713 career catches for 7,870 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Jarvis Landry says Browns didn’t want him back
Landry was with Cleveland from 2018 to 2021, helping turn the Browns into a playoff contender, and his outspoken leadership and performance on the field made him a fan favorite. However, the Browns will have to make a difficult decision in 2022. Landry was recovering from an injury and the Browns wanted to go in a different direction. The Browns released Landry shortly after acquiring Amari Cooper in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys.
He recently said he wants out of Cleveland and is trying to stick to a restructured contract. “I requested a restructuring and was told to wait, but then they signed another WR and received the paperwork,” Landry wrote.
Landry also cited trouble in Cleveland over personnel decisions. One notable departure was Odell Beckham Jr., a good friend of Landry’s.
“I stayed at CLE because I didn’t like what was going on and wanted a better solution,” Landry said. “Our team was one game away from making it to the AFC Championship, so having a starting team would have played a big role there and we could see the big picture.”
Browns introduced new look WR unit
The Browns’ spacious frontcourt looks much different than it did with Landry. The first big move was Cooper, but then the Browns made trades to add depth. Last season, Cleveland acquired Elijah Moore in a trade with the New York Jets. Moore didn’t have much success in his first season with the Browns, but he showed potential as a playmaker. Having Deshaun Watson for the full 17-game slate would help his cause.
The Browns added former first-round pick Jerry Jeudy this offseason. The team put him on trade with Denver Bronocos. Cleveland has refused to elections in the 5th and sixth round of transactions. Jeudy has yet to reach his potential, but the Browns hope he improves. Shortly after the trade, the Browns signed him to a three-year extension worth up to $58 million. Cleveland also has some promising young players to work with. Cedric Tillman and David Bell are recent third-round picks, and there should be more this season.
