Bills GM gives final response to Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors
The Buffalo Bills don’t appear to be making any moves to acquire Brandon Aiyuk or any of the other high-priced receivers still on the trade block.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane spoke about the state of the receiving corps on April 27, after the NFL Draft, and dismissed persistent rumors that the team might make a big trade. The Bills have been rumored to acquire San Francisco 49ers wide receiver and Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins in the trade market, but Beane emphasized that there is no scope for adding such a large contract. .
“Cap is Cap,” Beane said via Joe Buscaglia of X’s Ateltic. “There will be no trade. I know everyone wants to link us to any trade in the league.”
Bills Seen as Contenders for Star Receivers
Many analysts believe the Bills are the frontrunners to acquire either Aiyuk or Higgins, and one NFL scout believed the team was building assets for success in the NFL Draft. The Bills traded up twice in the first round, acquiring the 32nd overall pick, then the 33rd overall pick, and added a series of mid-round picks.
An anonymous NFL scout told ESPN’s Matt Miller that the decision appears to lead to a trade for a new wide receiver. “Going back to 33 (against Buffalo) makes perfect sense,” the scout said. “Now they have all day tomorrow to try to trade Tee Higgins or someone from the 49ers.”
It appears that no team is seriously targeting Ayuk in the draft. Niners general manager John Lynch said the team received no phone calls during the first two days of the draft.
“I didn’t hear anything like that today,” Lynch said Saturday, via NFL.com. “We’re happy with our wide receiver group, and as a general rule, I’m more than happy with it. we are very excited about this. And I’m really happy that we’ve become even stronger with the addition of Ricky (Pearsall) to this group.
Bills Add to Receiving Corps
The Bills needed a capable receiver after trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and losing No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis to free agency, and they addressed this issue in the NFL Draft. Beane used the team’s No. 1 pick early in the second round to take wide receiver Keon Coleman from Florida State.
On April 27, the rookie wide receiver told reporters he has support from Bills quarterback Josh Allen. “He texted me the same day: ‘You’re the one I wanted.’ “I looked at a lot of the receivers and I wanted to play with you. I thought, ‘I said the same thing,'” Coleman told reporters. I want to play with the player with jersey number 17. ”
Coleman also praised Allen and said he was excited to start playing with him.
“He’s a great defender. I think he’s one of the best players in the league right now and I’d love to catch his passes. I’m ready,” Coleman said.
