Report; Cowboys Sign Receiver After Breakout Season Amid Roster Moves:

The Dallas Cowboys have signed Cam Johnson, a wide receiver who was an undrafted free agent.

According to Justin Melo of the Draft Network, Cam Johnson from Northwestern was one of the initial undrafted free agents recruited by The Dallas Cowboys shortly after the conclusion of 2024 NFL draft.

Johnson had his most successful year in college, achieving 54 catches for a total of 715 yards and scoring 6 touchdowns during the season of 2023.

Having played his initial four seasons at Vanderbilt, the playmaker made a move to Arizona State before eventually landing with Northwestern. In an interview on March 5th of 2024, Johnson divulged that during pre-draft proceedings, the Cowboys emerged as one of their top suitors according to Melo.

According to Draft Network, Johnson expressed that his interviews went smoothly and each meeting had a unique vibe. The Cowboys, 49ers, Ravens, and Titans particularly caught his attention as he sensed they enjoyed him and appreciated his skills on the field.

Dallas has added Brevyn Spann-Ford as a tight end in their undrafted free agency acquisitions.

According to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have added another receiving option by signing tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford from Minnesota. Standing at 6-foot-7, he could become a valuable target for Dak Prescott given his size if he manages to secure a spot on the final roster.

As per a source, Gehlken shared on X that the Cowboys have signed Brevyn Spann-Ford, an ex-Minnesota tight end who shows great potential. Standing tall at 6’6″ and weighing in at 260 pounds, he boasts of a considerable catch radius and can be a dynamic inline option for his team to contend with come 2024.

In 2022, Spann-Ford excelled during his time in college as a tight end with impressive stats of 42 receptions resulting in 497 receiving yards and two touchdowns. According to Lance Zierleingave’s pre-draft assessment on NFL.com, he assigned the athlete a seventh-round grade for evaluation purposes.

According to Zierlein’s pre-draft analysis, Spann-Ford is a large tight end who possesses the physical build of an in-line Y receiver but plays more like a move tight end. Although he made some strides with his run blocking during 2023, he still needs to continue refining his ability to sustain blocks and accurately block in open spaces. His agility on passing routes that target zones closer to the line of scrimmage could be improved due to being somewhat sluggish, and he also lacks natural instincts for getting separation from defenders when facing man coverage.

Although Spann-Ford had some difficulties with drops and catches that were up for contention during the previous season, his potential to become a tall option as a slot target may pique teams’ interest.

The plans of Dallas Cowboys regarding their running back are still unknown, as rumors circulate.

Despite owner Jerry Jones speaking highly of Texas running back Jonathon Brooks after the first round, Dallas decided against using any draft picks to acquire a new running back.

Brooks was chosen by the Carolina Panthers at No. 46 in the second round, way before Dallas’ turn to pick at No. 56. Despite this possibly changing later on, there have been no reports of any undrafted running back signings for Dallas after the draft rounds had ended. According to Todd Archer from ESPN, it appears highly probable that Ezekiel Elliott will reunite with Dallas team once again.

According to an article by Archer titled, “Cowboys closer to Ezekiel Elliott reunion amid RB shortage,” the Cowboys sat down with Rocky Arceneaux – Elliott’s agent – and Elliot earlier in the week to discuss a possible return. Coincidentally, both Arceneaux and Elliot ended up attending a scouts’ dinner at Dee Lincoln Prime where members of the Cowboy organization were also present.

Jones still has faith in Elliott’s ability to become a running back at the starting level.
