Exclusive; Bills Trade Proposal Lands ’Surprise Contributor’ for QB Josh Allen
Following the departure of Stefon Diggs through trade and Gabe Davis due to a free agency exit, the Buffalo Bills opted to select just a solitary wide receiver during their NFL draft.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay proposed a trade to acquire quarterback Josh Allen a new weapon, wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., despite the fact that second-round pick Keon Coleman appears poised for an immediate starting role.
According to Kay, trading a future seventh-round draft pick in 2026 could result in the Buffalo team acquiring Marshall – who was selected by the Carolina Panthers as their No. 59 overall pick during the recent NFL draft of 2021.
According to Kay, the Buffalo Bills require immediate aid for their receiving position but are quickly running out of options and resources. On the other hand, Marshall isn’t a suitable addition to Carolina’s team. If he were paired with Allen as his quarterback in Buffalo, however, Marshall could seamlessly transition into being an unexpected asset for them by 2024.
Since Marshall is unlikely to improve in a Panthers uniform and may leave after the season, Carolina could try to regain some value by letting him go early. The team cannot expect anything close to the Day 2 draft pick they used when acquiring Marshall initially, so obtaining a late-Day 3 selection should be sufficient for securing the young player’s departure.
Marshall’s career saw a resurgence during his three seasons, catching 64 out of 110 targets for a total of 767 yards and scoring one touchdown. Given his strong connection with Joe Brady, former CFP champion Marshall may be an ideal addition to the Buffalo team.
Reuniting with Joe Brady, the present offensive coordinator in Buffalo who previously served as passing game coordinator and wide receiver’s coach at LSU during his rookie year when Marshall gained 671 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on 46 receptions; joining the Bills would provide an opportunity for Marshall.
The Panthers Allowed Terrace Marshall to Seek a Trade Last Season
Carolina’s readiness to permit Marshall to pursue a trade in the 2023 NFL season suggests they are willing to consider offers. Despite demonstrating potential with his performance of acquiring 181 receiving yards over three exhibition matches during his rookie preseason, Marshall did not manage to sustain that success.
According to sources, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on October 19th, 2023 that Marshall Jr. has been given permission to pursue a trade. The Carolina team has conferred with Vince Taylor, the player’s agent because he wants a more prominent position in his team. In case no trade is found for him then they would welcome him back anytime he wishes so..
It would not be shocking if Carolina and Buffalo made another trade. In the last NFL draft of 2024, the Panthers were able to choose Xavier Legette at No.32 because the Bills traded down with them in round one. As a result, Buffalo received Coleman (No.33 pick) and Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (a fifth-round selection).
According to Kay, the team’s standout acquisition among their wideouts is Curtis Samuel who has a tendency for inconsistent performance and may not receive significant targets on a weekly basis. With Diggs gone, Coleman could potentially aid in filling his void while Khalil Shakir, drafted fifth-round in 2022, also shows potential growth in his third season. Despite these options available within the offense though, there remains space for a breakout candidate like Terrace Marshall to step up into an essential role.
Buffalo Can Still Add Another WR After Signing Chase Claypool
After the draft ended, Brandon Beane, the General Manager of Bills talked to reporters and dismissed any talks of making a showy trade in offseason. Nevertheless, there is still a possibility for them to consider economical alternatives such as signing free agents or making trades that won’t cost much. The team hasn’t finalized its 90-man training camp roster yet.
Chase Claypool was signed by Buffalo last week, but his spot on the team is uncertain. The Bills currently have around $2.8 million in cap space and could free up an additional $10.2 million with Tre’Davious White’s release after June 1st.
With a cap hit of $1.8 million scheduled for 2024, Marshall is currently in the final year of his rookie contract. Despite dwindling options on the free agent market, there are still available players like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Michael Thomas and Zay Jones to consider.
