Breaking: Bills Get Bad Sign on Major Free-Agent Acquisition

The Buffalo Bills will have to wait a while longer before observing the capabilities of their new free-agent acquisition, Mike Edwards, in action.

In March, the Bills signed a safety who was anticipated to compete for a starting position. However, this player has been impeded by an enduring shoulder injury and was observed wearing a sling during the team’s May 28 practice session. Sean McDermott, head coach of the Bills had already cautioned that it might take several weeks before Edwards could engage in live practices; nevertheless Tuesday’s snapshots may indicate that there is still significant progress needed.

Practice is yet to be undertaken by Mike Edwards.

Although the Bills have commenced OTAs this month, Edwards has been unable to attend thus far. On Tuesday, ESPN journalist Alaina Getzenberg posted a picture of Edwards walking across the practice field wearing a shoulder sling.

Earlier, McDermott stated that Edwards was struggling with the injury’s after-effects but it was anticipated for him to regain complete wellness before the start of summer training camp.

McDermott informed reporters on May 21, via SI.com that Mike is currently facing a minor shoulder injury and will continue to do so for another three to four weeks. Despite this setback, McDermott praised Mike’s contributions as a valuable addition to the team beyond his recovery period.

Other injuries on defense have been bothering the Bills as well, and linebacker Matt Milano is amongst them. He has suffered from a leg fracture since October and is still undergoing rehabilitation. Although McDermott’s timeline for his return remains unclear, he firmly believes that Milano will be fit in time for training camp.

“Our training staff has informed me that he’s progressing as expected,” McDermott stated through the team’s official website. “Matt is present every day and I can attest to his hard work. It appears likely that we won’t see him in action until closer to training camp with only a chance of limited drill participation beforehand, but this will depend on how well he continues to improve.”

New safety plays a significant role.

With the exits of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, Edwards could seize a valuable opportunity to step in at safety for ting. Though there is talk of Hyde potentially coming back to Buffalo for another season, CBS Sports speculates that even if he does return, Edwards might still have what it takes to secure the starting position.

Edwards, who signed a one-year contract in March, is likely to become the starting free safety for Buffalo. This comes as Buffalo has not made any attempts to re-sign Micah Hyde – a long-time fixture in their secondary who remains team-less and may miss out on returning to football due to neck issues. Even if Hyde were to come back, Edwards’ youthfulness and good health make him an attractive option for the Bills starters anyway.

During his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Edwards pulled in impressive stats including 51 total tackles and one interception. He showcased excellent defensive skills by breaking up five passes and recovering two fumbles – one of which he returned for a touchdown.
