Bills Safety Damar Hamlin Sends Cryptic Message Amid Roster Criticism

Damar Hamlin, the safety of Buffalo Bills, sends a message to his critics

During this offseason, there has been increased examination of the seasoned defensive back due to the new skilled players joining him in the safety room on Bills. This scrutiny has led some experts to forecast that he will not make it through final roster cut. In response, Hamlin posted a cryptic but unwavering message directed towards these critics on his social media platform.

“On X, Hamlin expressed that though they desire his defeat, he remains optimistic and hopeful for a victory since he is overdue.”

Although Hamlin refrained from identifying the target audience, his statement seemed to indicate that he was opposing the increasing conjecture about him being excluded from the roster consideration this summer.

Predictions from insiders indicate that the tenure with the Bills is coming to an end.

According to insiders, there are concerns that Hamlin may have to compete for his position on the team during this summer. The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia recently analyzed the draft and suggested that the safety, who is entering his fourth year with the team, might struggle to make it onto the final 53-man roster and could even be put up for trade.

According to Buscaglia, Hamlin seems to be in danger of being left off the roster this year and it would not come as a shock if the Bills decide to trade him before the start of the season.

Hamlin’s situation has improved according to new reports. Journalist Alex Brasky pointed out that in the June 4 practice, he performed exceptionally well and showed promise during his team’s OTAs.

Brasky reported on X that Damar Hamlin was a standout during the #Bills OTAs. During Tuesday’s session, he showcased exceptional coverage skills by anticipating Josh Allen’s movements and successfully tipping his pass into Deion Jones’ waiting hands for an INT.

Hamlin’s time with the Bills has been tumultuous as he mainly contributed on special teams during his debut season in 2021. However, due to prolonged injuries affecting Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, Hamlin stepped up into a starting position for his sophomore year.

Starting in 13 games that season and coming second on the team for total tackles, Hamlin faced cardiac arrest from a tough hit during a January game with Cincinnati Bengals. Post an extended hospital stay, he dedicated his offseason to recovering back into form and rejoined the squad successfully for 2023.

However, Hamlin’s role was reduced to a lighter one compared to his previous position as he only played in five games and focused mostly on special teams.

The Safety Position is Reinforced with New Talent by the Bills.

Despite losing Hyde and Poyer to free agency this offseason, the Bills have strengthened their safety squad with key additions. This may pose a challenge for Hamlin’s chances of making it to the final roster as veteran Mike Edwards was signed during free agency while Utah safety Cole Bishop was acquired using a second-round draft pick.

After he recovers from a persistent shoulder injury, Edwards is expected to secure a starting position. This was pointed out by CBS Sports, which also recognized him as a two-time Super Bowl winner.

In March, Edwards inked a one-year deal and is now likely to start as Buffalo’s free safety. This is due in part to the fact that Micah Hyde, who has been a long-standing member of their secondary unit, remains unsigned and may not return to football because of persistent neck problems. Should Hyde come back on board with the Bills, it still seems probable that Edwards will be given priority consideration for starting duties owing his comparatively youthfulness and better health status when compared with him.
