Tiger Woods’ Son Charlie Qualifies For His First USGA Event

The younger Woods recorded the highest score in the U.S. junior qualifying round at Eagle Trace Golf Club on Wednesday (Jan. 19), finishing at one under par and becoming one of four players to qualify from the tee. “I didn’t play very well the first two holes, but the last 16 holes I played really well. I told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles, and when I got birdies I took advantage of them,” Woods told the Associated Press. Father Charlie was 14 years old, first of the first event in the United States, reached the semifinals, and won the first event a year later at Bay Hill. “The USGA means a lot to me,” Charlie Woods said via the AP. “I want to win USGA championships and hopefully one day the U.S. Open.”

The U.S. Junior Amateur is scheduled to take place at Oakland Hills from July 22-28 and will include 264 players going through 36 holes of stroke play on the site\’s North and South courses to determine which 64 players advance to match play.
