LIVETransfer news LIVE: Man Utd chase three deals, Arsenal’s striker hunt, Olise snubs Chelsea
We reported earlier (see 9.22am post) that Everton have a decision to make over Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with Newcastle looming.
Well, right on cue, the Telegraph are reporting that the Magpies are indeed pushing ahead with a transfer for the English striker.
Calvert-Lewin is about to enter the final year of his current contract. Everton have offered him new terms, but no decision has been taken. The ball is in his court now
Ian Maatsen will be an Aston Villa player in the next two days, reports Birmingham Live.
Villa have agreed to pay Chelsea a deal up to £37.5million for the Dutch left-back, who will sign a six-year contract following a successful loan at Borussia Dortmund. The length of the contract is partly due to profit and sustainability rules, with Villa keen to spread out the cost.
Everton know they need to balance the books in the summer transfer window, but won’t back down in their negotiations with Manchester United for Jarrad Branthwaite.
There are tricky decisions elsewhere, though, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Amadou Onana among potential saleable assets. Newcastle are long-term admirers of Calvert-Lewin, while Arsenal are keen on Onana.
Meanwhile, Tim Iroegbunam’s £9million move from Aston Villa is going ahead and Kalvin Phillips is another target for the Toffees.

Things are beginning to hot up in the summer transfer window.
Euro 2024 may be on, but that isn’t stopping deals from being done. Manchester United need a centre-back and are still chasing Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but Lille’s Leny Yoro represents an alternative. A striker is another priority and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee could fit the bill, with a £34million release clause.
Arsenal also want a striker and Viktor Gyokeres is one of the players being considered. Michael Olise has snubbed Chelsea and other Premier League sides to choose Bayern Munich and there is plenty else going on across Europe.

Everton facing difficult decisions

United contact Lille over Yoro
Real Madrid are understood to be in pole position for Leny Yoro, but Manchester United haven’t given up hope.
Liverpool have already seen a £42million offer rejected and Real are lining up a deal, yet United have now stuck their oar in proceedings. Yoro has one year left on his contract with Lille, who are trying to play hard ball over the fee.
United have already been told by UEFA that they cannot sign Jean Clair Todibo from Nice because the French side are also owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe
Liverpool are among the clubs interested in signing Marc Guehi this summer, but Crystal Palace’s asking price could prove too steep.
As David Anderson writes, Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer will be dictated by what they decide to do with Mohamed Salah, who only has a year left on his contract. That saga could drag on until August, when a decision to sell or extend his deal will have to be made.
The Reds want a replacement for the departing Joel Matip, but Guehi’s price tag is only going to rise during Euro 2024 and with Manchester United also interested, he won’t come cheap.
Saints in talks to sign Downes
Southampton have entered negotiations to sign Flynn Downes from West Ham on a permanent deal.
Downes was one of the stars for Saints during a season-long loan spell as they secured promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-off final. The 25-year-old central midfielder still has three years left on his Hammers contract, so will command a decent transfer fee.
Man Utd draw line in the sand over Branthwaite
Manchester United want to sign Jarrad Branthwaite, but they cannot and will not pay the £70million Everton are asking for.
Like many clubs, United are hamstrung by the profit and sustainability rules and can only afford a £50m net spend this summer. Sales of Mason Greenwood – who could fetch £40m amid widespread interest – and Jadon Sancho will help, but Branthwaite could simply prove unaffordable.
