On Wednesday, Charlie Woods, Tiger’s 15-year-old son, qualified for his first USGA championship event by posting a 1-under 71 at Eagle Trace Golf Club, the leading score at the event. He’s now qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur.

“I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played really good for the last 16,” Woods said. “I just told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles and I took advantage of some nice birdie looks when I had them.”

The U.S. Junior Amateur will take place July 22-28 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Woods will compete with 263 other players, who will be reduced to 64 for match play.

Tiger Woods is a nine-time USGA champion and won three straight U.S. Junior Amateurs. He was 14 years old when he qualified for his first U.S. Junior Amateur, reaching the semifinals, and won for the first time the year later at age 15. He’s the only player to win three straight times.

Tiger spent two years at Stanford before turning pro, and Cardinal fans will hope for Charlie to follow in his footsteps.
