Tiger Woods was very famous for the captain of the US Cup team in 2025, but reportedly refused the proposal.
Tiger Woods abandoned the chance of the captain of the United States at the Ryder Cup next year at Bethpage Black. According to The Telegraph, Woods has become a leader in the American team, but 82 winners on the PGA tour refused to lead his country.
On Monday, PGA of America has been found to hold a press conference every two days to announce the captain in 2025. It had been expected that 15-time major winner Woods would be the pick of PGA of America chairman Seth Waugh, but the 48-year-old will not be in charge from September.
The Telegraph claims that Woods had asked for the captain’s workload to be increased and therefore lightened, but that no agreement could be reached between the two sides. Instead, they say they, like Fred Parks, Davis Love III and Stewart Kinke, have the opportunity to lead their country.
Woods has been mulling over the idea of accepting the role at this year’s Masters and confirmed he will discuss it with Waugh the day after the year’s opening major and make a decision.
“That’s something Seth and I will sit down and discuss after this event,” he said in April.
“I said I’ve got a busy few weeks, so let me focus on this week, and hopefully I can get another jacket and then we can sit down and discuss it next week.” The topic came up a month later, when Woods returned for the PGA Championship.
Speaking at Valhalla, the four-time champion alluded to the workload issue amid his off-course work assisting the PGA Tour’s negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund. \”We’re still talking,” he said in May when asked about the captain.
“Nothing has been confirmed yet. We’re still figuring out what that will look like, and whether we’ll have the time to do it. I spend a lot of time on the PGA Tour and I don’t want to miss out on the captaincy if I can’t play.
With that comes a commitment to representing Team USA, to the PGA of America, to the players, to the fans and, as I said, to all members of Team USA. They need to feel they can give him the time he deserves. The U.S. team is hoping to return to its home country next year after losing to European opponents at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy last fall.
