Tiger Woods turns down 2025 Ryder Cup captaincy due to injury and poor form – Report

Tiger Woods was expected to be one of the front-runners to captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2025, but recent reports suggest he has turned down the role. An announcement is expected to be made by the PGA of America shortly. According to The Telegraph, Tiger Woods has negotiated with Setu, a PGA America management director. Nevertheless, he would have denied the potential role a few days before the announcement.

Tiger Woods has been struggling with his form of late and has successfully only participated in the Major championships that have happened so far. The 15-time Major champion finished T60 at the Masters and failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship and the US Open. Outside of majors, Woods has played in just one tournament, the Genesis Invitational, but withdrew from the second round due to illness. According to The Telegraph, Woods expressed his willingness to accept the captaincy on the condition that the PGA of America reduce the responsibilities of the role for the 2025 tournament.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be held on American soil this year at Bethpage Black. The European team will look to defend their title after winning in Rome last year under the leadership of Luke Donald.

Earlier this year, Tiger Woods spoke about potentially playing for Team USA at the Ryder Cup. On the 2024 Masters, Woods said via NBC:

“We’re still talking. Nothing’s been confirmed yet. We always work on his appearance. \ “

With professional golf course, Woods is also part of PGA Tour policy. They say that he is one of the few golf players who are part of the negotiations on the PIF and PGA Arab SAUDI. The merger deal is a long and very important undertaking.

Woods also said he doesn’t want to compromise his current priorities by taking on the captaincy role. “We spend a lot of time on what we are doing on the PGA tour. If we can’t, we don’t want to play the role of captain. This is all obligations for the United States, players, and fans. Similarly, what implies and expresses the United States, and as I said, all are American teams. You need to feel like you can put in the time it deserves.
