According to Sports Illustrated, Keegan Bradley will become team captain after Woods leaves the team. The Telegraph report explains that Woods will struggle to find the time to take on the responsibility because he is also heavily involved in the PGA Tour’s negotiations with the PIF, the financial arm of the Saudi government that funded LIV Golf.
He has never been a captain before, but he is a former assistant captain for Team USA. PGA Tour veteran Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, who was team captain in 2012 and 2016, and Fred Couples were also considered for the job.
“I thought he should have gotten a shot first, and he did,” Cink told reporters about Woods on Monday ahead of the Scottish Open, according to Bankard.com. “I’m not surprised he stepped down because the PGA Tour is so busy right now since he came on the board and he hasn’t had much experience on the field. He’s had an injury and he’s trying to recover and get back to playing condition. He wants to play.” I’m not surprised he refused. Given that you add to all of this, it probably plays a pretty big role.”
