BREAKING: Two-time major champion announces retirement from professional golf.
Two-time major champion and six-time LPGA Tour winner Seo Young Ryu, a South Korean golfer, announced on Instagram Thursday that the Chevron Championship will be her last tournament before retirement. “After making the decision to retire, I spent a lot of time looking back on my career,” Ryu wrote in a handwritten note. “So many memories came back to me and I felt so many emotions.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized I had a lot to be grateful for. I’m so grateful that I get to do what I love every day, and that I get to do it for a living. I don’t intend to lie. I had some difficult points, but despite some problems, I enjoyed it all. And above all, I am very grateful for the love and support I received through my career.
Ryu, 33, won the first first in her two specialized fields in the 2011 Open Championship and participated in LPGA next year. Impressively, she finished inside the top 25 at the U.S. Women’s Open 11 consecutive years from 2010 to 2021, including six of those finishes in the top five. Liu’s streak came to an end when she missed the cut at Pine Needles in 2022. Last season, Ryu received special permission to play at Pebble Beach and finished 53rd.
